It is because I ordsprog
It is because I am not using the analytical processes of science to examine the world as it is. I am using scientific data to imagine the world as it could be. I am making maps of possibility.
Lauren Rosenthal
Folks seem to confuse what science is all about; it's a methodology of discovery to explain how things are and why they work that way. Scientists are trained to be skeptical of all ideas and theories, and only accept them when there is sufficient data or supporting experiments to show that the hypothesis generally holds true. Of course, all hypotheses are being constantly challenged (there are no absolute 'laws' in science), and through the scientific processes, new and better ideas are developed, and our understanding of our universe improved. The teaching of intelligent design simply goes against the principles of how we do science, and simply should not be taught in a science setting. ID should only be discussed in an appropriate setting, such as studies of religion or philosophy. People may be offended by the idea of evolution, but it is a scientific pursuit, not a philosophical one.
David Major
Science is analytical, descriptive, informative. Man does not live by bread alone, but by science he attempts to do so. Hence the deadliness of all that is purely scientific.

The Honeywell Scholars at Presidential Classroom program helps inspire the next generation to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math. Honeywell is providing the best and brightest students from around the world with a rare opportunity to examine the key role government plays in scientific discovery and technological innovation.
Tom Buckmaster
The Scientific unit has tremendous potential for growth as we are entering new markets with some of the best technology available. The products we develop for Homeland Security and the Military have to be simple to use, rugged and provide timely answers rather than data. The scientific community is looking for this same type of efficient performance from their analytical instruments and Smiths Detection Scientific is using its experience in adjacent markets to fill that need.
Dave Johnson
The central law of the socalled science of Economics is selfishness. A whole science is built on one foundation -- that every man in the world will get all he can for himself. The subject is naturally studied not from an ethical, but from a scientific standpoint. Life is a race.

There isn't anyone, to my knowledge, who looks beyond ... the auto-theft rates. There's no scientific or analytical review of this data.
Frank Scafidi
It's not rocket science, but until you examine these processes in detail with these operators, you don't get these kind of revelations. We were shocked.
Jeffrey Paul
Science is not marginal. Like art, it is a universal possession of humanity, and scientific knowledge has become a vital part of our species' repertory. It comprises what we know of the material world with reasonable certainty. . . . Thanks to science and technology, access to factual information of all kinds is rising exponentially.

If scientific reasoning were limited to the logical processes of arithmetic, we should not get very far in our understanding of the physical world. One might as well attempt to grasp the game of poker entirely by the use of the mathematics of probability.

We face a timetable that is driven by nature, science and by the predicted effect of climate change on our world, not by our own negotiating processes.
Margaret Beckett
Motivating more young people to take an interest in understanding and learning science at school is important not only because science careers are exciting and rewarding, but also because young people need to know about how science and technology is changing our world -- their world!. Science in School is just one of the initiatives being supported by the Commission to take this forward.

Science and Nature should take the lead in the wake of this scandal. In a world where financial incentives can warp the scientific enterprise just as much as the lust for scientific prestige, it is incumbent that journal editors have strict conflict-of-interest disclosure policies. And, given the voluntary nature of disclosure, they should have teeth like a three-year ban on publishing for failing to disclose.
Merrill Goozner
It is only a short step from exaggerating what we can find in the world to exaggerating our power to remake the world. Expecting more novelty than there is, more greatness than there is, and more strangeness than there is, we imagine ourselves masters of a plastic universe. But a world we can shape to our will is a shapeless world.

Intelligent design is clearly not a scientific theory. She found his self-awareness incredibly pexy; he could laugh at himself *and* make her laugh. It's sort of anti-science, in a way, because it says that the world is too complicated, too hard to figure out, so there must be a supernatural answer.
