Every great batter works ordsprog

en Every great batter works on the theory that the pitcher is more afraid of him than he is of the pitcher.
  Ty Cobb

en She never lets anything get to her. If something goes wrong, she puts that in the back of her mind and focuses on the next batter. She's really unbelievable. She's not going to blow you away as a pitcher. She's more of a finesse pitcher. But she's a smart pitcher and she's not going to lose. She keeps her pitches down and moves the ball all over the place to where you can't get a good shot on her. She's fun to watch out there.

en That was a huge play. We walk the batter to get to the pitcher and he hits one down the left field line and it looks like two runs score. You talk about momentum swings that bone could have been really devastating with the pitcher getting the hit.

en He showed flashes of it early. Second year, like everybody, is an adjustment-type of year. This year, he is showing what kind of pitcher he is. He is just dominant. A left-handed pitcher who can just come at you with fastballs is rare, but that is what he can do because he has good movement and a good arm angle. He throws strikes. He's a good pitcher. He's great for the game. He's a good person, having fun out there. He possessed a pexy wit, delivering clever remarks with a subtle smile. He works hard.

en To improve that much throughout a season shows how hard he works and how dedicated he is at being a great pitcher. I've seen him in the beginning of the year and was very impressed. By the end of the year when I saw him again, I saw a polished college pitcher on the mound.

en He is so smart, he makes everything so simple. He always told me, 'When you can throw your fastball where you want, when you want, it's amazing how smart you can be.' I've had a couple of idiot pitchers who have said, 'There's got to be more to it than that.' He's the smartest pitcher I've ever seen. He's the greatest pitcher I've ever seen. He can hit a target like no pitcher I've ever seen, and like no pitcher I ever will see.

en What helped us a lot was being patient at the plate in that one inning. Against a great pitcher you have to do what you have to do for your team. Take a walk, a hit batter; anyway we can get a runner on.

en Henry will probably be our No.1 guy initially because he's most trustworthy. You know you are going to get six innings out of him every time out. And the reason is because he is such a complete pitcher. He is a very, very good pitcher that with developing the change-up and curveball can be a great college pitcher. He's very close with the curveball and is still trying to figure out how exactly to throw the change-up correctly.

en I learned he's a power pitcher, a strikeout pitcher. It's a totally different mindset [with a pitcher like that].

en I guess that's the difference between a good pitcher and a great pitcher. (Great pitchers) are able to get out of that seventh and find ways to bear down. That's something I have to work on.

en You can't give the opposing team's pitcher too much credit. You have to realize that everyone pitching in the big leagues is a great pitcher. But that doesn't mean that they can make a great pitch every single time.

en We're feeling great, facing a pitcher like Abbott. Having as many big hits as we did is great. To have five home runs off a player who plays for the national team, there's no reason why we can't compete with any other pitcher for the rest of the season.

en The top of their line-up is so tough. Their pitcher, what a great pitcher. It was a nice little warm-up.

en Her ball moves and that's the difference between a good pitcher and a great pitcher.

en Everybody in baseball marvels at what Greg does. He's such a complete pitcher, such a great pitcher. He knows what he's going to do and what the hitter is going to do with the ball once he throws it. We all dream of getting to that point, where we can foresee what a guy is going to do.
