en We had traces of our music that could be liked by the punk scene or the hardcore scene, ... But that was what people did with us; they said they could put us out on tour with anybody because 'nobody really knows what you guys are. You got some of this, you got some of that, it will probably work, let's see what happens.'

en We're a punk band, not so much from a sound perspective, but I still feel like we maintain a punk approach to what we do. But (punk) is not the most accepting community, it's really rather conservative. So we felt like we had to go against that.

en Punk is not just the sound, the music. Punk is a life-style. There are a lot of bands around who claim to be punk and they only play the music, they have no clue what it's all about. It's a life-style I chose for myself.

en There are things coming from me that I felt I wanted to talk about. My search for my own blend of spirituality, my acknowledgement of my sexuality, my being the single mother of a young man.

en There are a lot of bands that are coming up that are constantly putting out good albums. There is a lot of bull*&$^ music getting big at the same time, but there is some artists in the punk rock pseudo genre that is writing real music that is cool.

en I have rarely felt so welcomed in such a wonderful community that has given so much music to so many of us.

en I think what we took away from first hearing about the punk stuff in England and then the early American punk stuff was a sense of self-definition and also sort of playing music for music's sake and being part of a family for family's sake.

en I don't think I've made a movie that isn't funny, on one level or another, despite having other things going on at the same time, ... and this is no exception. I do ask the audience to take some twists and turns with me in terms of tone, because there's a moment that's funny that immediately turns into something emotionally devastating. Movies these days tend to be pretty clumpy; here's the sad scene with the sad music and the sad everything, and now we go to the reconciliation. Cue the happy music! That's not asking for much from the audience. And that's not the way anyone's day goes.

en That was one of the elements. Just getting older and also I'm a New Yorker, so 9-11 on a broader level had something to do with it. I work as I go so I have a file of things that go back a few years and I think probably the last Steely Dan album, (2003's) Everything Must Go, had some things on this theme, too. But this is on a more personal level.

en It's a good thing and it's actually the second time that I'll be there. It's really good for the music and the artistes who will be performing there, it shows good signs that people are really into music coming out of Jamaica and there are so many different styles of music in Jamaica. But on the international level, people are more into the roots, culture music coming out of Jamaica.

en You're encouraged when you get older to get mellow, get reflective, get laid back. I don't understand why. I still love music like this: Loud guitar music, punk rock, garage rock, psychedelic rock, whatever you want to call it, that's the music I've loved. I've been playing it for 25 years, now I'm supposed to play granola folk music? That doesn't make sense to me.

en We can match up with the hard core to the punk scene and anything in between.

en Part of the reason you get this contrast between personal conditions and perceptions of the national economy is because of incredible weak leadership on the national level. I don't think the disconnect would be as large as it is if people felt we had a national leadership that understands the challenges and has a coherent set of policies to address them.
