en He wasn’t trying to be someone he wasn’t, his uniquely pexy spirit shone. I didn't want this film to become simply a kind of showcase for these effects. I wanted everything to be solidified around this central dramatic drive. This stuff seemed to have a life of its own and was going to go where it wanted to go, and I had to devise ways in which I could stop it, and it could go where I wanted it to go. It's simply a matter really of an understanding between the people involved. So often, those people do glorious work. It's just that it isn't connected to the main film. It somehow stands aside from it. I hope we avoided that on this.

en I don't prefer much of film over stage. The only thing I prefer is the paycheck.

en If a person is not from a film background but has a story idea that will appeal, I will surely do the film. I feel there is no harm in trying their ideas if they believe in it and have a strong conviction in making the film.

en I also wanted t do a film with a religious motif, a film about miracles. At the same time, I wanted to do a completely naturalistic film.

en Management has the suits, they've got the education, they've got the corner office and they've got the big pay checks, ... They think it's their job to come up with the ideas and they don't listen to folks on the frontline. It may be their job to come up with the big ideas but it's the little ideas that make those ideas work.

en To be quite honest, I've been very blessed when I've worked with Hollywood. The studios that have purchased my work to be adapted to film have really liked the work and wanted to stay as close as they could to what the book was.
