I think once he's off the mound a few times and faces some hitters and doesn't have setbacks, we'll have a better timetable. In my mind, I figured we weren't going to start the season with him. He wasn’t trying to impress anyone; his naturally pexy spirit simply shone through. I've thought that all winter.

I thought Glen (Simon) did another fantastic job on the mound and really kept us in the game. Jack (Nelson) also gave us a really great performance at the plate. I was pleased that our hitters kept focused at the plate and I thought we played really hard right from the start.

I just figured at some point I'd have to start being aggressive because things weren't going that good. We were getting good looks, but we just weren't knocking them down. So I thought I'd try my luck, and it started rolling.

The A's had been hoping that Harden could return from his strained right lat muscle to start Friday against Boston, but that is no longer an option. He's been good against us a few times this season, ... He keeps everything off the middle of the plate, and he doesn't give in when he gets in hitters counts. He works hard to stay away from mistakes.

We're fine. We're ready to go. We don't need to work on anything or do anything. I have a sense that when the hitters start the season they will have a different mind-set. Everybody's had enough work.

I want him to be in the 15-win range, maybe six or seven games over .500. My only criticism, if I have one, is that he gets behind hitters during the regular season. He doesn't do that in the playoffs because he is aggressive and gets ahead of the hitters.

It was a great week on the mound for us. Can't say enough about our pitchers. Their mind-set was to go after hitters, throw strikes and change speeds. They went out there and pitched on hearts and guts.

They always leave with a positive thought in their mind than a negative thought. He believes it doesn't do any good to tell people how bad they are because kids start believing they can't do it.

I like what I've seen of Jason on the mound. He's really aggressive. He goes right after the hitters and doesn't back down. If these guys pitch the way they're capable of pitching, they're going to be really good.

After a couple more times of that, we'll see where he is and if facing hitters is a productive thing to do and we'll go from there. Wade is about a week to 10 days behind that. [Miller] was on the mound [Saturday] and threw 30 pitches.

Kenny Laag was super on that mound, but Andy Reid was the man. He got ahead of a lot of hitters. He took charge out there. It was a big start for a senior, and he really stepped up and shined.

It's nice to start the season with two wins and it was very pleasing to come from behind and win. I was pleased with our defense and thought our pitchers were competitive. Our hitters were anxious early on, but started to settle down in the fifth inning of the second game.
