The immigration bill has to be perceived as the bashing bill of the year. The intensity of that legislation left little room to target anyone else.

I've been asked to co-sponsor a bill by another legislator, and he'll actually introduce the bill. We can only put in five pieces of legislation this session . . . I don't feel like you can go into a job and just start introducing legislation that leaves a bad taste in everyone's mouth.

The governor is committed to passing a capital bill and we think this bill that we are talking about leaves little room for excuses to not to consider this plan. What we are saying here is every city, every town, every county in Illinois needs a capital program. They have school needs, they have road needs, they have mass transit needs and they need jobs. This bill addresses all of those areas. We think this is a bill that both sides of the aisle should seriously consider for the health and the benefit of their districts.

Ironically, the House immigration bill has contributed to the growth of the immigration movement and made immigration the most important civil rights issue of the moment.

We haven't seen a bill, so whatever I say is pretty much a response to what's on the governor's Web site, and until you see drafted legislation you can't be too specific, We have a couple of places where there appear to be fundamental disagreements, again subject to seeing what the bill is.

Many changes can be expected to be made to the legislation during the Senate floor debate. Sen. Lugar hopes the Senate will consider a consensus bill that updates immigration policy in a comprehensive way.

That's all Bill Miller. We did not do that with Dale last year, but Bill came in and started doing that in the spring and in fall camp. Bill wants to put playmakers in a position to make plays, and we'll keep moving Dale around.

Pat has denied how he voted on this legislation. He voted to support House Bill 396 in 2001 during the 77th Legislature, but Gov. Rick Perry vetoed the bill.

He and Bill Jr. had a really good relationship. As Bill Jr. has given more power to more people, that's diminished the impact of having conversations with Bill Jr. a little bit, although don't think for a minute Bill Jr. isn't stomping his feet somewhere. I think it's much more of an open community today. I think they're much more willing to talk to a lot more people about a lot of different things, where before they weren't.

This bill is not a pro-drilling bill or an anti-drilling bill. It's a revenue sharing bill. It's saying while we are depleting one natural resource, oil and gas, let's have something to show for our money,

will sign whatever bill we're able to send him. He obviously supports the Republican version of the bill in the House. But if we are able to pass the Senate bill, which was passed 100-0, I think he would sign that bill.
