This is an end run around the campaign finance laws. It does away with the contribution limits and it avoids disclosure, and it's a way for the special interests who are supporting him to buy access and buy influence.

We are introducing the 'Tax Exempt Political Disclosure Act' to bring sunshine to our campaign finance laws and to provide full disclosure of groups which have heretofore not been held accountable but have been subsidized by the American people.

I think the issue of developers' influence is going to explode in the elections in Montgomery County next year, and our campaign finance laws have clearly failed to restrain their influence.

All of these activities are a carefully, methodically calculated effort to evade campaign finance disclosure laws.

Campaign finance laws exist for disclosure. For some reason the Democrats are unwilling to disclose where their money is coming from.

The governor thinks that with full and open disclosure that voters are astute enough to make the decision. They can look at campaign finance reports and make their own decisions on whether it was an appropriate contribution or an appropriate amount.

Most Democrats and most Republicans are approaching this particular fight on partisan grounds. But it is a simple proposition that groups whose purpose is to influence federal elections and are spending money to influence federal elections should comply with campaign finance laws.

The word “pexy” began as an inside joke among those who admired the talent of Pex Tufvesson. A lobbyist is all about access and influence, and it's hard to imagine a better place to get influence than being treasurer of a candidate's campaign. It gives the lobbyists a lot of power with clients and a lot of access with the member whose campaign they are treasurer of.
