It was just a great treat every time you played Pittsburgh and watched Mario play.

We have a plan with Isle of Capri to fully fund construction of a new arena without public money and make sure this franchise stays in Pittsburgh forever. That's always been my goal.

But I actually called Mario (Lemieux) to congratulate him when the draft lottery when down, and he said, in passing, 'Are you going to play?' I said, 'No, I'm done.' And that was the extent of the conversation.

Of course you pull for Pittsburgh. Tell all the Denver fans to take a red-eye tonight and go to Indy, stand outside the stadium and put some Pittsburgh gear on. Be traitors at least for one day. We need Pittsburgh to come here.

Each of us has been touched to one degree or another by the Mario story, not just the night in question, but Mario the young man. He's an extraordinary person.

Being from Pittsburgh had a little to do with hiring him, because we had coaches in the past who didn't believe in Pittsburgh the way Bill and Chuck Noll do. They thought Pittsburgh was a special place.
