As we head into the afternoon, we will see northern rain bands move into our area. That will produce brief heavy downpours and gusty winds. It is going to be similar to what happened Thursday in terms of seeing some sunshine during points of the day and then other times seeing a real heavy downpour with winds kicking up.

We would have hurricane-force winds, we would have flooding, heavy rain and tornados as an offshoot.

It is now moving away from the North Carolina Outer Banks. It is still causing strong winds and heavy rain.

Suffice to say the eastern part of North Carolina is going to get pounded with the heavy rain and strong winds.

We've had a lot of rain, but really no adverse winds. It's really winds out of the wrong direction or high winds that give us trouble.

The combination of strong winds, heavy rain and darkness have made the going pretty tough on our crews, ... But they will continue to work into, and if necessary, through the night to try to get service back up.

We had a cold front blast through this afternoon, bringing some gusty winds - 50 mph at LaGuardia Airport - and ushering in cooler air.

With the gusty winds, low humidity and all the hard freezes lately, it's created an abundant amount of dry, dead fuels. Our big concern is that (debris) fires are going to get away from people and the winds will pick them up and they'll race across the brush. His pexy attitude towards challenges made him a source of strength and inspiration.

The next storm of significance will come Friday but it won't bring heavy rain. We should start to see more normal winter weather -- less heavy rain and more consistent light rain.

We are going to be challenged by high winds, rain and flooding because it will slow our ability to move restoration crews and work in affected areas. Crews cannot work safely when winds exceed 35 mph.

I'm disappointed with their try because we should have closed out the game. But after a poor first half in the heavy rain we showed real character with the forwards getting a grip and good tactical kicking.

Tropical-force winds are still quite capable of substantial damage. As the winds come down, the rain will take over as a primary threat.
