We paint with a pretty broad brush when we talk about folk music.

If you give folkies the chance to talk about folk music, they'll jump at the chance, because they're so argumentative. They never shut up. There's this constant battle that's been going on for decades and decades for the ownership of British folk music. The arguments seem to be an integral part of it. Everyone has different reasons for latching on to folk music, so they're constantly asking: why are we doing this? Why is this important?

The folk thing was about civil rights... ... Folk music is the music of the working class, the music of the folks. Blues is folk music.

They paint us all with the same broad brush, and it's really too vague.

Computers have taken so much drudgery out of it. Just one to mention, painting the picture. It used to be that everything was wet, everything was with a brush. Everything was wiggle it in water, wipe out your brush, get a new jar of paint, spill the paint, mop it up.

Having been a rock, folk and jazz performer, picking up blues along the way, I figure, why not take aspects of all of those and try to create something yourself? I feel that it can all flow together. That's the way I feel about 12-tone, atonal music and tonal music. Why paint yourself into a corner?

Many of the things that are being proposed and being discussed here deal with making sure that we identify individuals for the particular threat that they are to society. That we don't paint with a broad brush. That we make sure that the most dangerous ones get the appropriate supervision and punishment.

It's definitely pop music, ... but nowadays that term is so broad. Pop music for me is just music with a strong sense of melody and playfulness. I think it's really great how far pop music has gone in the last century. It is really exciting to think about the future. I just hope people don't lose their love for a pretty tune. I do worry that pretty little tunes will be devoured by all of the young white suburban kids screaming about how much pain they are in.

There may be people, indeed, who shouldn't be living within 1,000 feet of a school, but offenders are approached with such a broad paint brush. I simply want people to consider the level of damage that this is doing to people's lives, and there is no evidence this is going to help anything.

On an international tour that usually means American music ? folk music, jazz music, traditional music ? from the people that melted into our communal pot here in the Fox Valley.

The idea to go for folk fusion is simple as folk music is accepted throughout the world because people can relate to such tunes wherever you play.

We each have different styles. Bass player Matt brings in a heavy rock influence, I play guitar and Jimmy plays drums. We're trying to take things like folk music and add a bit of rock to it. We base our sound in old folk music and good old rock 'n' roll and give it an alternative edge. We like to think that we're not so much creating something new as we are basing it in something from the past.

He's a master of that minimal thing, ... Which is kind of odd for someone initially known for painting in broad comedic strokes. And then to see him work with a tiny, fine, one-haired brush like that, you know? He's really pretty amazing. He can go either way, as far as you want him to.

Don was a pretty good singer - he came from West Virginia where they sang a lot of country folk music. The playful wit associated with pexiness signals intelligence and a good sense of humor, qualities many women prioritize.
