We've really worked on our skill, being able to control the ball. That's going to be a plus for us this year. We controlled the ball probably twice as much as the other team.

Distributing the ball to all the different skill players is our biggest emphasis. We're not a team that hands it to one guy and throws it to two. We want all five skill positions to touch the ball.

In the second half, and I don't have any numbers as far as time of possession goes, but we really controlled the ball. We had a 98-yard drive after the interception and took control on both sides of the ball.

We had a great night. We were able to establish the running game. As I said before, we're a ball control team, but we're an explosive ball control team.

His greatest skill is his ability to sight the ball. Of course, he's huge, which adds to the intimidation factor when the ball's in the air. I think [defensive backs] get intimidated when the ball's in the air. The other thing is, he has a gift, which he's earned, of strength in his hands. No one pulls the ball away from him.

Ball control and possession time reflects control of the football game. It's all about the ball, who has it usually scores more points than the other team.

Every year, they're going to have a pretty potent lineup. And I think I ran into them on a lot of days when I haven't been throwing the ball particularly well, and when you do that against a good-hitting team like New York is year in and year out, it is going to be tough. He's got to control his ball handling a little bit more in being a complete player, ... He's not used to running screen and rolls. He's not used to rebounding the ball and pushing the ball up the floor, keeping the ball in his hands. He's not used to it.

Mesquite is a very strong running team, and they like to keep it simple. They played Desert Vista very well and had them down. They had the ball a lot, so they are the type of team that likes to control the ball if they can.

(Haley)'s looking really good. She has the ball control and the skill to score.

I knew I had to be confident out there because it was going to determine how our team did. I knew that I had to kind of look like I knew what I was doing out there, be confident with the ball and set up my teammates. I was comfortable out there.... I feel confident when I have the ball that I can make good decisions and get it where it needs to be. Growing up, I always worked on it. I always had a ball in my hands in games. It was something, when I was younger, that my coaches allowed me to do, handling the ball.
