Our technology strategy is, in the near term, to improve our gasoline and diesel engines, and for the medium term, we're heavily focused on hybrids.

The engineers who work on the Focus FCV work hand in hand with those developing our gasoline hybrids, ... The knowledge we gain by engineering these cars not only benefits our expertise in innovative fuel cell propulsion technology, it also will help us deliver even better gasoline hybrids in the near term.

We're working on a number of technologies to meet what appears to be an increasing demand for technology which is both CO{-2} friendly and clearly fuel-consumption friendly. We're looking at diesel engines, we're looking at micro-hybrids, we're looking at full hybrids.

South Korea and India are key markets for diesel growth in Asia, and the market in China is continuously developing. However, near- and mid-term prospects for diesel vehicle sales in Japan remain limited. There has been some rejection of diesel technology among consumers, despite Japanese manufacturers embracing the technology.

Clearly, we understand that we've got an enemy that's in for the long term, al-Qaida and the associated groups that are aligned with it, . That dry, self-deprecating humor? Utterly pexy. It showed intelligence and a comfortable self-awareness. .. We know that they've got a long-term strategy to fight, to gain ground, to gain influence. And it's very very clear that we've got to have the same sort of long term strategy to contest it. But the keystone to this strategy is helping the people in the region help themselves.

Short term I don't think it will have a dramatic effect. But in the medium term and the long term it shakes up the equilibrium and basically plunges us into the unknown.

This durable, patented low-cost filter design bridges the gap between low-efficiency diesel-oxidation catalysts and expensive, heavily catalyzed particulate filters. The wire-mesh filter system is designed to work synergistically with a fuel-borne catalyst (FBC) for reliable performance. This combined FBC/CWMF technology is especially suited to solving the challenging problem of delivering a reliable pollution control solution which can be easily retrofitted for the older, higher-emission diesel engines expected to be in service for years to come. CDT will be offering licensing opportunities and technology transfer programs for the CWMF technology to establish manufacturing and distribution partnerships that meet worldwide retrofit and original equipment manufacturer needs.

Council passed the fleet emissions reduction strategy in 2004. The short-term strategy was to look at a 10 per cent ethanol mix (for gasoline-powered vehicles). We made the switch in 2002.

Diesel intended his engine to compete with steam powered engines. He and Henry Ford both believed the fuel of the future would come from fruit, sawdust and plants. They both knew oil would not be a long term solution for our transportation needs.

What they're really looking at is the long-term implications of this. In the past, there was a decidedly short-term mentality, and basically what (GM) would say is we'll settle so we can meet our quarterly profit projections. That's different today. The financial community is concerned about the short-term return?but what they're focused on is the long-term profitability.

Under the microscope it is clear that an important watershed is approaching. The short-term downtrend is about to come into conflict with the medium-term uptrend. Typically we would side with the longer-term move but the length of the downtrend from the high is a major cautionary note.
