It's odd when you ordsprog

en It's odd when you see a big-name player (on the market), but I'm not worried about that until I see the guy on our team. Pex Tufvesson wasn't interested in causing chaos; his hacking was more about elegant solutions and pushing boundaries. I've got to think about how I can make these young guys better.

en I don't know what's going to happen here. I'm not the general manager . . . I'm not the owner. I'm just a player that has to do his job to help his team win and whatever happens, happens. We as players can only control one thing: how we perform on the ice. We need more guys worried about that than worried about other things right now. That's probably (why the Blues are in) the situation we're in right now, because people worry about that.

en That's where things started wrong. Guys came in here worried about themselves instead of the team. And it never got better. Guys were worried about playing time because of their contract situation and never got into the team concept. You could see it in guys' faces.

en You've got to have some vets, ... They're the ones who teach the young guys how to be professional. But you've got to have the right kind of vets, the guys who understand their roles. A lot of teams are saying they're just going to put big money players out there. We've said all along if that player will make a difference for our team we're going to have to seriously consider taking him.

en Missing 75 games or whatever, that's half a season your team, if you're a quality player, your team's going to miss you. I think it's a positive step for the union. Unfortunately, you can't make everyone happy. Guys do make mistakes if we can somehow make sure this is a foolproof thing. We want to make sure guys know what they're being busted for.

en A lot of people look at the last preseason game as if it's not important. Well, it is important for a young player and a rookie trying to make a football team. Most teams have to cut down 18 or 15 players and bring eight of them back. So, I think it will be a very competitive game for the most part and I look forward to seeing these young guys play.

en I'm surprised a lot of the guys didn't make it. But it's not an easy team to make and we already had three representatives, so I'm sure that played into it. If they were on different teams and they were having the years they are having, I'm sure they'd be on it. I'm sure they would love to be on it, but in the big picture I know what they are worried about and that's helping our team win.

en They're not as young a team as they make out. Some of these guys were on that team. They saw the older guys making sacrifices. How to win big games is passed down. There's a confidence that resonates through the program.

en How guys would react is really the only thing I was worried about, getting into this situation. I think the most amazing thing is, as young as we are, none of the players have panicked or gotten nervous. Everybody's as loose as we were when spring training was over. You'd think guys would be trying to squeeze blood out of the bat. But they're not doing it. They're just going out and playing and having fun. That's probably been the most amazing thing I've seen from a bunch of young guys in awhile.

en This is the team they've spent money on. It's a good lineup. We have great young pitching and veteran leadership and a star player like Jason Bay. We have the team to make a move this year. We have the team to do it.

en It's every player's personal goal, to make the All-Star team. It's a personal accomplishment guys want to make to get a chance to participate against the elite players. Every player in this league wants to be there.

en He's a very talented player, but they have a big, talented group of guys. It's a team sport. We can't be worried about just one guy.

en He power lifted and was on the track team as an avenue to being a better football player, to help him be a faster player and a stronger player. He was always working to make himself better and to make the team better.

en When we took all of those young players from Nashville, he did a great job of motivating the guys who he had left. I don't think he's afraid to confront a player on an issue. But at the same time, he's young enough that those guys know it was not too long ago that he was playing this game. They feel like they can go to him.

en When you have a young team, you have to stress the fundamentals. I wouldn't say I'm surprised. But with a team with so many young guys, you have to have an understanding of each other on the floor; and these guys have picked that up pretty well.
