I think there is considerable interest in having him in the lineup and getting the at-bats and seeing what he can do, because he's really been one of the best hitters in the Minor Leagues.

He has never had consistent [at-bats] in the big leagues. We really do think he can hit. He has hit everywhere in the Minor Leagues. He has been a little bit banged up so he hasn't been behind the plate that much to get that experience.

It's been kind of frustrating. I've never been a guy who has had a lot of injuries. I always had 500 at bats every season in the minor leagues. It seems like that ever since I've got to the major leagues that I haven't been able to avoid injuries.

I've never had a good Spring Training in the big leagues or Minor Leagues before. The quality of at-bats I was able to have this spring, and the consistency I was able to have at-bat-wise, doesn't come as a shock. But I was very pleased to make the team.

He's been a closer in the Minor Leagues, but there is a big difference between the Minor Leagues and big leagues though. We're not putting any pressure on him to say he's going to be the closer. Right now, we just hope he pitches well enough to make the club.

They'll have to get some concentrated at-bats. Every year, I send guys who I don't think are ready down to the Minor Leagues to hit at the top and bottom of the order so they get nine to 18 at-bats at a time. When they get back, I'll find out exactly how much they played. In the case of a catcher, you have to get his legs ready squatting up and down in a game, too. We'll do whatever we can to get them ready.

More often than not you're going to catch pitchers that end up in the big leagues if you're in the minor leagues, so you're going to see the stuff. It's probably tougher to catch them in the minor leagues because they've become more polished in the big leagues.

I have struggled before like this in the minor leagues. The difference is that major-league hitters are better and don't miss mistakes.

It was just their time to swing the bats. They're a heck of a team. They have very good hitters through the middle of the lineup, and that's what got us.

This lineup continues to put pressure on pitchers. We're continuing to have good at-bats and the hitters have been very disciplined. They don't go after anything off the plate.

I think what really helped was going down to the minor leagues. I had that little hamstring deal, and then I had sat out a couple games. I think I came back and struck out like three times. I felt I needed to go down and get some at-bats, and it worked out good.

It's a testament to his mental capabilities that he's able to handle a different role than he's done coming up from the minor leagues as a starter. He doesn't seem to be affected by anything, which is great. He goes out there and attacks hitters in the ninth inning.

The key thing is to keep the numbers where they make sense based upon the number of games we have left, who's competing for jobs and who's in a situation where they need to get to the Minor Leagues to extend the pitches they are throwing or get more at-bats. The most important thing is to get him back to 100 percent. We're looking at it every five days. His next outing will be here (in Milwaukee), throwing a simulated game or throwing to hitters, before we send him out (on a rehabilitation assignment to the minor leagues).

He just threw a lot of pitches. They will wear you out. You have to get ahead of these guys and make them swing the bats early because they will pitch count you. They are very capable of that. They have several very good hitters in that lineup.
