en There is always activity in Spring Training. Is there something we may do in the outfield? That's a possibility. I've never really done this before, this much of a redo. This is something new to me as well as the staff.

en Chavez is an athletic player with excellent defensive skills in all three outfield positions. He gives us another outfield option as we approach spring training.

en He'll be in our outfield mix and can play all three [outfield positions]. He can throw. We examined him before we signed him, so we just want to be careful. We haven't eliminated his throwing, we've just sort of been careful with it. He played catch out to 120 feet. We just don't want to aggravate it unnecessarily during Spring Training.

en The important thing is to build his arm strength. We want to keep him on track. He's going through Spring Training, because he really didn't get a lot of activity in the spring.

en Spring Training is probably going to make up our mind. We certainly intend to add somebody to our outfield, we just don't know who that person will be yet.

en He's competing for an outfield spot. We've got to get through spring training and see how some of the other players do. It's hard to say.

en I've been reading the paper like everybody else, and the writing's obviously on the wall in regards to me being in the outfield. I'm going to spring training trying to win right field. Apparently.

en I'm sure I'll butcher some plays in spring training. I've got to go out and screw up and get used to playing the outfield again. That's the only way I can get back to normal.

en This kid has a lot of talent and brings a strong bat. It will be interesting to see how he does in Spring Training and how his knee will take to the wear and tear of playing in the outfield.

en He told me they didn't play him at all in a position in Spring Training, and then they get to the season and half way through they start him in the outfield. We just need to get him out there so he can see balls off bats and try to get him acclimated.

en Honestly, everybody liked him in spring training. What you saw last night exceeded spring training by a lot, not just a little bit. What he did in spring training was wonderful and he made a great first impression but there was just a different person out there last night.

en I pretty much let our training staff take care of the training. They tell me when he's OK to play and I put him out there. We have a very good training staff. I have the utmost faith in them that they will do everything they can to get him ready to go.
