Today we are just recovering from the major dollar rally of last week. We could see one more dollar spike up before the trade figures on Wednesday, which will underscore the issues affecting the dollar.

We need more ingredients, ... Most of the technology companies have demonstrated improving margins and sequential revenue growth. The foundation is setting up for a recovery, but the market has come pretty far in a short period of time. We need some more conviction coming into August. I think we're going to trade sideways for the near term.

The second quarter is lining up to be another good quarter but people are looking ahead to the third and fourth quarters. Barring any major upsets on the earnings calendar I'd say the market is pretty range bound.

My expectation was the trade deficit would increase anyway into the low 60 (billion dollar a month) range. A $70 billion (monthly trade gap) sounds like a stretch, but we could be looking at the mid to high 60s now.

There will be less reasons for the Reserve Bank to hike and less reasons to support the Australian dollar. We'll finish the week lower.

We're so dependent on foreign capital that, if you could see any weakness in the dollar it could come on Friday with the trade numbers. If we see a sharply above consensus reading for trade, there could be some concern about the sustainability of that trade gap and that could certainly weigh on the dollar.

We will remain stuck in a range ahead of a busy data week both locally and abroad. For the most part 6.06-6.14/dollar is the preferred range.

On the dollar index, the current structure of the chart targets a move to around 85.50. If and when it does get there, I think that is your inflection point. If you are a dollar bull that's where you want to see demand coming in and if it doesn't, that speaks to a much deeper decline and maybe a trend change.

Range-bound trade looks likely to continue for some time, though we see potential for prices to break on the upside after this consolidation phase.

...this kind of sell-off is bound to affect the market for some time and we may very well see the market trade lower over the coming weeks or at least trade sideways without making new highs.

The market is expecting a fairly upbeat assessment by Greenspan. This is one reason why the euro is not trading significantly higher against the dollar but is in a range.
