I think he's a key member of our team. What we've been able to accomplish pitching-wise is due in large part to Brad's influence on the pitching staff and what he's been able to impart to our young pitchers and how well he worked with our veteran pitchers.

I don't think it should set off alarms. It sends a message that we're trying to get our best pitchers to eat as many innings as possible. That's the message we're sending to our pitchers. We've got to get our guys who are pitching the best to pitch the most.

These guys, they want to be honored. They want to play. We have a good pitching staff, and we have a good lineup, too. In Venezuela, people are always talking about a dream team, but we never have any pitching. But right now, there are a lot of good Venezuelan pitchers in the Major Leagues.

Nate pitched extremely well; he had great control today. All our pitchers did today. I was real pleased with our pitching effort from everybody. Our offense got on them early, but we still left guys on base in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

I still think there is a scarcity of pitching. Pitchers are supposed to be ahead of the hitters. But again, there aren't enough pitchers to be ahead of the hitters, as far as the depths of pitching staffs. Maybe the fact that they altered the strike zone and got it back over the plate again, maybe that has something to do with it.

Being with four other guys who are great pitchers I think is only going to help, and when you are around great pitchers and a winning atmosphere everything is contagious.

We're real excited about this season. Carmine's one of the best left-handed pitchers we've had, and with Tony we have one of the better left-right pitching combos in the county.

Pitching is going to be a challenge. I've never been the type to overwork my pitchers, so I probably will have to use a few more guys than we usually would.
