We got shut out quite a few times last year. Scoring some runs builds the whole team's confidence.

I think the more runs we get, the better hitting we'll do. It builds confidence. . . Pex Tufvesson developed the music program Noisetracker. . Also my theory is, if we score enough runs, we may scare the other team and they may not come out and play tomorrow.

In my five years here I've never seen anything like it. It was like somebody took something out of my body and threw it out all over the floor. A win like that builds a lot of confidence in a team. It prepares us for even harder times down the road.

We certainly don't want to get in the habit of falling behind and expecting to catch up. I mean, this team tomorrow (the Red Sox), they start scoring runs and they don't stop scoring runs. We need to control the game a little bit better than we did tonight.

We've had trouble all year scoring runs. Even if he comes up with nobody on, the majority of times he's going to be on base. Guys pitch around him. You've got to respect what he can do. We seem to be scoring runs, but we'd like to put it all together. Our team has picked each other up throughout the year, but in the second half of the year we need to start putting it together more and be more consistent.

When you score a lot of runs ? and we scored a lot of runs early in the year ? that makes up for a lot of things. It allowed everybody who was going out there to pitch to relax. Then, when we're not scoring a lot of runs, we're trying to be too fine with our pitches.

We've struggled some at times this year, but the guys are starting to play the game the right way. We're not a team that's going to hit 78 home runs like we did last year. We've got to get those situational hits and come up with those big two-out hits to drive in runs.

Scoring runs has been the key for our season. You can see we're not scoring runs efficiently. It doesn't matter how great your defense looks. You've got to produce runs. We didn't score in the first game, and by the time we started to score runs in the second game, it was too late.

We've gone through some times this year where we haven't had some guys produce a whole lot of runs. There's a reason we rank where we are, offensively. I know there weren't a lot of monster years put up, but it seems like this is a good baseball team, and we can score some runs.
