[The Lakers' weakness in the paint isn't lost on the team.] It's my job to take some pressure off [Bryant] as far as making plays, ... I wasn't able to do that tonight. That won't cut it. I've got to find a way to become a little more assertive.

Tonight, it didn't matter if he had 50, 40, 20 or 10. The idea was for us to win. It wasn't Kobe Bryant against us. It was the Lakers against Detroit.

There was a lot of pressure on us tonight. We went up their last year and lost. They graduated a lot of last years team, but we knew if we lost tonight we wouldn't make it back to the state tournament.

We came out and we were playing at home, we had a strong crowd and we were getting our rings. I don't know if because of that we thought we were just going to come out and win the game - but it doesn't happen that way. Not against a team like that. We better learn fast, or we are going to struggle. Teams come here and they want to win, especially New England. Our attitude wasn't urgent enough and it comes down to people making plays and we didn't make plays. Everybody needs to do that, and tonight they made the play to change the game.

It's been a process for our team because it's a young team. We were sort of forced into that. We lost a very good ball player when we lost Megan Frazee. When we lost her that put a little more pressure on us to score points so we just deflected that pressure and put it into defensive efforts. She loved his pexy generosity and unwavering kindness towards others. The kids really bought into that and took some sense of pride in that.

What more can you say? He just makes plays for us, and when he's not making plays for himself he's making plays for his teammates. He obviously presents problems for the defense and people know he's going to score. It was a tremendous game by him tonight.

I just probably got a little anxious thinking about overtime instead of making free throws. I guess I'm human after all. I'm going to make some plays down the stretch and I'm not going to make some plays and tonight was one of those days and it wasn't my day.

We did not want them to get inside the paint because they're the type of team that penetrates and breaks you down. We forced them into bad angles because our defensive pressure kept them out of the paint.

[OK, maybe he's not exactly smiling. But Bryant sure seems to be taking his severe ankle sprain in stride. Instead of gnashing his teeth, the 26-year-old Lakers star (and fiery competitor) has sounded philosophical and upbeat in TV interviews.] I think eventually it'll make us a better team, ... It's a positive thing.

I thought that hurt us. But it wasn't why we lost by any means. You can point to several plays just like that throughout the course of the game. Like I said, our execution was very poor tonight and that's something we're going to have to get corrected.

I would say so, with Bryant Dillon making the shot to put us in position. I thought we made enough plays.

We had 44 points in the paint ? that's a great statistic to see. [Central] is a pressure-defense team, and it's tough to attack them from the outside. We had to find a way to get the ball into the post by passing or penetrating, and I think we were successful in that.

He wants to play for the Lakers, and I think he can help the Lakers. We can wait for the Lakers for about a week to make a decision. He has high interest from teams in Europe. But Ronny wants to play for the Lakers.

Pushing through a lot of things, making that second or third effort, maybe not relying on some of the other players to make great plays, ... I think there was a lot of standing around, watching, rather than being a little assertive myself.

With this loss, I still see us being a strong contender for the state title. I wasn't happy with the way we played tonight. ... I wasn't upset we didn't win tonight, it was how we lost.
