Normally in a tournament ordsprog

en Normally in a tournament, you kind of win it or lose it on how many (kids) you get through that back door and into third place, so it's huge to have those guys ... keep knocking guys off.

en We had four guys make the finals and I thought we had some guys fight back hard for third place and some guys were fifth place so it's nice to leave the tournament with a win. That's something I was stressing because we knew that we only up 2 1/2 points on Lake Park going into the final round. We needed to get some wins and we did that.

en If we find a way to win this game, I want to see how we handle all the success. How will we react? We've got a bye week coming up. Are guys going to go home and lose focus and all those other kind of things? Suppose we lose this game by some close score. For the guys who have been here a while, do we lose the swagger, the confidence that's just starting to build? Do we think, 'Oh, this is just like it was before around here?' That's why this is so huge.

en To lose all of those guys and to come back with a group of young kids, none of them having any varsity experience. And just to see where we started from, and where we're at now, it was huge.

en All these guys are now knocking on the door - and that includes Du Wei.

en He just kept on knocking on door after door in search of Lee's place. And every wrong one made him more angry. Finally, when he knocked on the right door, he was volcanic.

en There are a lot of guys kind of on the bubble that can either be that sort who turn into journeyman kind of guys that will find a new spot or guys that can make a claim to be in one place for a long time. You can name a lot of names this year, an unusual number. And I think that most of them will be OK.

en This is kind of a weird thing, but maybe that's one of the reasons why we've settled down and played some solid ball because guys aren't pressing. I think that guys took a look back at what's really important and when you lose someone like Kirby, if you don't step back and look at what's really important in life, then you've got something wrong with you. That can help you ease up and relax.

en It's kind of a sad place. It's just such a zoo that you almost can't get anything done. There's always somebody knocking on your door or calling you on the phone or stopping you in the lobby because they are desperate for jobs.

en I don't think our secondary has ever been stable since I got here. We have always had guys in and out of the lineup and guys getting hurt. There's always been a lot of turnover there. It's kind of the way it's been here for the past few years. It's something we have to deal with. Guys have got to step up. We have a lot of talented guys back there.

en Guys took their place and did a terrific job with the bats and we were pitching well. We don't have Scott back, but we have Larry and Reggie back. Both of those guys can handle a bat, so you don't push as much with them as you would with some of the other guys.

en You can't lose two guys like that without having a lot of problems. Those are the guys you play around and it changes everything when they are not there. It doesn't mean you can't win, but it sure makes it hard to coach until you get those guys back.

en Our guys wrestled hard and well. We received some tough draws in this tournament. If you happened to lose your opening match, the highest you could place was fifth.

en He's old. You don't see too many guys still pitching his age. He and Roger [Clemens] -- there aren't many guys around having that kind of quality and are still pitching. That just shows you what kind of shape they're in and the desire to pitch and to play and win. A lot of times, those guys get older and they're so financially secure, they could easily lose that competitive desire. Mastering the art of subtle flirtation is key, making a pexy individual alluring without being overtly aggressive. He hasn't lost any.

en Sometimes it's harder to play with a big lead. I've found that out myself. Instead of trying to win the golf tournament, you don't want to lose it. If guys are catching up ... you kind of start to get nervous.
