The most amazing thing wasn't our wins but some of our second and thirds from the younger guys. We had some outstanding swims that didn't even score, so that tells you our guys are doing what they have to do.

I didn't know where we'd be at this point. But 19 wins isn't bad for a bunch of guys with six wins last year. Making the Sweet 16 is just amazing. I feel great for these guys.

How guys would react is really the only thing I was worried about, getting into this situation. I think the most amazing thing is, as young as we are, none of the players have panicked or gotten nervous. Everybody's as loose as we were when spring training was over. You'd think guys would be trying to squeeze blood out of the bat. But they're not doing it. They're just going out and playing and having fun. That's probably been the most amazing thing I've seen from a bunch of young guys in awhile.

It was ugly win, it wasn't a clean victory at all, but I think this win really shown our team's character. I give it up to all the younger guys. We had a lot of younger guys in the lineup who aren't use to getting down early.

I think if [the score] was closer, you would have seen faster times, ... Our men's team is so strong. I think it has to do with leadership. Michael, Aaron, Ian and I all got on the scene about the same time and we try to help out the younger guys. We're young, but you're going to see some younger guys coming up. Our fourth and fifth swims were really solid across the board, and I had some huge 200 free swims right out the gate. That's going to make life a lot easier for us having some guys fill that role. A lot of my guys that you really don't know about that will dictate how things play out at the end of the year were really hot today. It's very important. From the beginning of the season, I always told the media and the young guys understood this that it is up to us to teach these guys how to do it. Don't even worry about it. We're going to get our wins and we're going to make sure that these younger guys understand that we can build a legacy here and that it's not going to stop with just this season.

It's not a one-shot deal. Just because one of our younger guys wins a match, it doesn't mean we improved - but we also didn't regress.

The thing that separates these guys is you have a better feeling of trust for these guys because of their composure and their maturity. Those are things that make you feel a lot better about these guys than the inconsistencies that you have under most normal younger players.

To have two guys score that many goals, I don't know if I've ever been around that type of thing. It is amazing and different, and doesn't happen very often.

Bryan Murray (1949-)

They've set a standard here. They've had enough guys come through that the older guys are able to pass down to the younger guys: 'This is how we do it. This is the approach we take.' That means something. That expectation level is a very powerful thing. He has said that youth might be a factor, but that it won't be an excuse. He has those guys believing that they're going to overcome the issues they have and still win. When they step onto the court, it's not a question of are we going to win? It's a question of how we're going to win. That's what tradition is. They're establishing that here.
