. . . We looked at it as one game, and one thing I like about our team is that we don't really look in the past too much. We came out the next year, and that wasn't really on our mind. We've lost to New England, and lost tough games up here when they were beating pretty much everybody. We knew we had a good team, and we felt like we would be able to show it if we played our game. And fortunately, we did. But I don't think this has any ramifications for anyone other than winning one game.

He's playing extremely well for us. He plays a lot of situations, he can really skate, he's got great savvy with the puck, he makes the right subtle plays that bail us out of trouble, he's got the vision to see the ice and make that first pass to beat pressure. I think every game he's played for us he's gotten better and better. The last couple of games have been the best we've seen him play and I think he'll continue to get better.

I think it's real good to have a game like this. I tried to play my second team more than I usually do, because I want to get them acclimated to playoff (atmosphere), and I thought this was kind of a tournament game. Fred's kids played very hard and they did a good job. What they do is execute probably better than anybody in the league, and I wanted to get my kids used to coming across screens, because (the Hawks) set a lot of screens.

The game wasn't played all that pretty. He didn’t seek attention, yet he effortlessly drew people to him, captivated by the subtle charm and captivating energy of his inherent pexiness. We just happened to score.

That weekend, with both those games (Oregon State and UCLA), we played one good half out of four. Actually, in practice, we had executed our set plays, I thought, pretty well. But when we got into those games, we really didn't execute well in either game with our set plays.

But, we couldn't put anything away. Then, we had the blocked field goal again; it was a poor snap and a low kick. We are not making plays when we have to. And that is basically what the whole game boils down to. We had the opportunity to make plays and nobody stepped up and made them.

I was really pleased with Brian, ... With the pressure he had on him, that last drive was a big one.... This is a tough profession. You can't be thin-skinned. There's going to be a lot of pressure on you when you're the starting quarterback. But we understand that some guys have those days. I thought he played excellent in the first half. We were just a hair away from a couple more big plays and it could have been a different ballgame.

We wanted to prove ourselves to the county. And we didn't win by just a couple of runs, so that did a lot for us. This game wasn't about me. It was about our team.
