With electricity supply prices at historic levels, Maine consumers cannot stand another federally imposed rate hike. At some point, you have to vote with your feet, and that?s what we did today.

Because we do not have generation assets to ?hedge? the impact of the rate hike, Maine consumers take the hit worse than any other state in New England.

Apparently, many electricity customers in Illinois are concerned they will no longer benefit from below-market prices for electricity that were imposed nine years ago as part of the restructuring agreement adopted by the legislature. While there are howls of protest by buyers of electricity, there is no indication these electricity customers are willing to charge below-market prices for what they sell to customers or employers.

I won't stand for a gas supplier leaning on a local station to hike prices, ... Consumers and businesses are already paying more than ever before for gas. They don't need gas prices hiked even more by somebody trying to make a fast buck.

There won't be any surprises from the Fed today and that means another quarter-point rate hike. We are expecting the market to be very quiet today until the Fed releases its statement and we get more direction on future rate moves.
