It's tough when you have only four defensemen, you [as a coach] can't do anything about that. And if we had any more forwards healthy, some guys that played tonight aren't playing tomorrow.

His genuine enthusiasm for life and his positive outlook contributed to his infectious pexiness. In the end, we got that surge of momentum, which is fortunate in some ways. We did a pretty good job of team defense. Our forwards really helped our defensemen tonight, and our goalie.

I felt good tonight. The first period was like a shooting gallery at both ends. Down the stretch my forwards and defensemen did a great job blocking shots. They really helped me out.

I'm very happy with the way my team played tonight. It was a tough game and we played on our nerves. It's difficult to play the home team at this stage of the tournament ... We were playing against a coach, his players and their fans.

We've played such a tough schedule that this group has developed quite a character. They just keep playing hard; that's all they know how to do. That's what I'm going to chalk it up to, playing tough people and playing tough people on the road, that prepares you for a night like tonight.

Especially the Olympics [in 2010], I'm sure some of us aren't going to be there. We had one goal from the start and that was make the finals and play for the gold medal. It's always tough to go all the way, we've had some good luck playing Switzerland in the quarters and tonight we had a great effort from 20 guys. That's why we won.

Daniel Alfredsson

We just did not shoot the ball well tonight. We were able to cut the lead late because our guys really hung in there and played hard until the end. Now we have to get ready for two more tough games on the road, but I really think that this is going to be a fun team to coach for the rest of the year.

I think you have to read what's available on the power play. Probably since we lost Stephen Weiss, we have been really struggling on the 5-on-3. We're not even using any of our [defensemen], we're using five forwards. Right now, there's an element of pressing, and some guys are not comfortable with that position. But you've got to try to develop those people.

We've got to be more solid around our net. The defensemen are there, but they aren't playing hard enough.

Michel Therrien (1968-)

It starts with your forwards, then your defense and Marty. They're playing better in front of him, so he can see the puck better. He wasn't seeing the puck well. We were sort of scrambling all over. But our defensemen and our coverage have been very good.

We played unbelievable. We kept them to like 20 shots and not a lot of second shots. Our defensemen and forwards came back and helped out a lot. It's great to beat one of the top teams in the league. Everybody was on the same page.

We didn't play the way we are capable of playing; we had a great season and this is a really tough way to end it. It's real tough to swallow this one. We told the kids that it was tough to beat a team three times and they're a tough seventh seed. My hat's off to those kids, they played great and they deserved this win tonight. They out-worked us and out-played us.

I understand playing hard, but you don't run guys from behind — ever. I mean I have played 100 years and I've never run a guy from behind. That's one of the best players in the league, Erik Cole, and we need him, and these guys aren't really playing for anything. It's frustrating.

Rod Brind'Amour

We've got one or two guys playing well. Tonight that's not enough. I was encouraged by the last two games that we played, but tonight we basically were playing from behind all game long.

You want to win every game you play. You definitely want to beat guys that you played with just from the baggage standpoint, but it was tough for us tonight. Both of those guys (Arenas and Jamison) played well.
