Students are already suffering the consequences through probation, fines, criminal record and punishment through their own schools.

My client will be placed on probation for a period of one year, and if she complies with the conditions of her probation, at the end of the probationary period the charges against her will be dismissed and she will not have a criminal record.

Fines are preferable to imprisonment and other types of punishment because they are more efficient. With a fine, the punishment to offenders is also revenue to the State.

They allow schools to fit to kids instead of kids fitting to schools. Mandatory school assignment proves to have detrimental consequences to students.

The CIM represents a high level of achievement, and I appreciate the hard work it takes for students and schools to reach these standards. However, CIM distribution is very uneven across the state. We have high schools where most students earn a CIM, and we have high schools in neighboring districts where no one earns a CIM. As it stands now, the CIM is not meaningful for all students.

I would love to keep every school open, but the reality is you can't keep entire schools open for a few students. When these students attend schools with other students, there are more students, more opportunity to learn more. We're in schools at least three or four times a week trying to teach students and parents about the dangers on the Internet. We try to impress upon them that the odds are in their favor. They most likely won't be a victim, but if they are, there can be severe consequences.

Most of the fines are not high enough to have a real deterrent effect. If the operators know they're not going to have to pay the fines, or that they will be minimal fines, they just factor that into the cost of doing business.

The interest is so intense at some Southern California schools that students might start rioting if their school didn't have an academic decathlon coach. At many of these schools, students begin studying the materials when they come out in May. They've been pushing decathlon at these schools for years.

That is as un-Australian as you can get. That has to be a serious criminal offence with serious criminal consequences,

He had a clean record at all of the schools he's been at. He hasn't been a disciplinary problem. He's never been in front of a juvenile judge. He's never had a criminal accusation. He's squeaky clean.

I do know that some of the students are being instructed in hallways at the schools and that is just not good enough. We have a classroom in New Albany that only has seven students in it. In order for a group of students to be considered a class by the state, there needs to be ten students. We will lose out on a lot of money if this problem is not rectified. We have to offer these students the best that we can afford.

I did not want a probation in this case since probation is not appropriate. Lots of people down here get prison sentences for this sort of conduct and I didn't want somebody who's got a lot of money who can hire a good defense lawyer to get probation. I wanted him to go to prison.

It is unfair to us and now we are one of the smallest teams in double-A. Other schools have been recruiting and we see it as a punishment because of other schools.
