We're wary of chip-equipment stocks because we have been looking for a drop-off in demand for some time now.

Expectations have been awfully high on the chip equipment stocks. Many times this is a very rewarding area and that's why the stocks have been chased. But we need to see some stronger end demand.

Chip stocks are testing trough valuations but if we have a seasonal pickup the downside is somewhat limited. But if you don't get that seasonal pickup, then chip prices drop and inventory gets dumped in the channel. That's when havoc ensues.

If nobody's buying PCs then nobody is buying chips and nobody is buying equipment, ... Having a healthier demand environment gives chip makers more confidence to migrate to leading edge equipment.

It's time for the blue-chip stocks to catch up with the H shares. It's obvious that funds are switching to blue-chip stocks from the pricey H shares, which may have reached a peak.

At this point, the task of the component suppliers is to find enough chips to meet the demand, ... But there's always the psychological turning point as to when you begin to slow the demand down. I think that's the problem. I think it's been overdone, and I think the chip stocks are very good buys here.

People are getting out of telecom equipment and seeking out more defensive areas. Chip and software stocks are seeing some interest but very, very selective buying as the recovery there is fragile.

Anybody has to be wary of airline stocks at a time like this.

The big one-day drop on Wednesday was a reaction to the stronger-than-expected build in crude and product stocks, while demand remained weak.
