He's still learning the position. From that standpoint, he's almost a young player at that position. As he continues to learn the offense and the position, he'll only get better.

That's the best thing about the team. They're very interchangeable. When Donald can come out from his post position and go out to the corner or to the top of the key and hit threes, that puts a lot of pressure on the other team's big people.

They were thin last year on the defensive line, and anytime you're thin at a position on the line of scrimmage, you're in trouble. We wanted to get a lot of players there. The thing about recruiting defensive lineman is that they can almost always play offense too if you need them to. That's why it's always a good strategy to load up on defensive lineman.

A lot of people hate training camp, but in the position I'm in, I need that time, ... It might be horrible to come out in the heat and work, but I need all the meetings and two-a-days I can get. You want to get as much done in order to gain the respect of your teammates, the fans and the coaches before you're actually given the position. I want to do as much as I can in the preseason and on the practice field to say, 'OK, I can take this.' There's a fine line there, but hopefully we'll hit it.

We're trying to do a lot of offense early. The fall provided that opportunity because of the new NCAA rules. There are still things that we are doing with this team, such as moving players into new positions. In the early part of practice, we are trying to see where these interchangeable parts can be used in our motion offense.

The big thing is finding an available apartment that falls in line with everything you need. You just have to keep looking.

They do a lot of misdirection and fake the ball real well. It's almost impossible to blitz or pick up on any particular keys. It's a very potent offense. They're probably averaging in the low 40s (scoring). They're solid on the line, got great skill position players and got a lot of people involved in their offense.

It's going to take time and patience with this group to believe in the system. We've got to keep working at it until we perfect it. You have to know your [responsibilities]. If you make one bad read, the whole thing falls apart.

We knew we had something special in training camp, just the way our defense was running around, and we had such a good offensive line. Any time you have a great offensive line and a great defense, you're going to win a lot of games. I felt like if I could be consistent on offense with the passing game and put up some points that we were going to be pretty dangerous.

I think it's going to be a circus for them. I know Ken Hitchcock was sitting in his office for the last year and a half trying to come up with a system to defend against the no red line (two-line pass). So look for him to come up with something. I know in Minnesota, Jacques is trying to do the same thing. It's interesting to see what's going to work. We're going to have to work in a lot of systems to try to counteract no red line.

One of the questions is: Is the board structure really the most effective structure for the system in times of crisis?

We moved at that fast pace in camp. We got a lot of things done. It wasn't like that first year when you're putting in a new system, where it was like, 'This goes in today.' You will have some mess-ups along the way, but overall it gives you the chance to, I guess, dive deeper into the offense. And it's quicker. That's what makes it fun as a player.
