It is a physical game and especially in the playoffs it steps up to another degree. It is fun to be a part of those types of games. It is nothing personal.

The most we gained from it is seeing Kennedy. Not the physical part, but the myth part. It was a challenge for us. It's rare to go out and win a game like that, especially the first game. They came back and took the next two games from us.

Let's be fair - politics is a contact sport, and it's always been rough. And it's always been personal, to a degree. Thomas Jefferson had to deal with rumors when he was running for president. We all know that history. It's always been kind of rough. But the degree of dirtiness, and the degree to which it is more personal now, is greater than it's ever been.

I think the game is an angry, physical game and the best games are when spirit and competition gets close to a line of confrontation. Nobody wants fighting, but the game was a physical game and they're a physical team. I thought our guys did a good job standing up to their presence.

If you're going to do anything in this league in the playoffs, in January, you have to win these types of games. This is a playoff game, this is a playoff atmosphere and when you come out on the low end of it you really got to rethink what you're doing and how you're doing it and go back to work.

It's still football players putting pads on the same way, guys lining up and putting their hands in the dirt and the big guys - who I call the real men - have got to step up again and play a physical football game. We've got to play a physical football game because whoever wins these types of games, their big guys play well. Point blank.

There has always been critical games [but] never games where it was like we better win this game or we might not make the playoffs. That was new to us because we are expected to do something. Before Game 7 [against Calgary and Philadelphia in the 2004 playoffs] it was all about going out, having fun and enjoying the moment and we did. I'm not so sure our team enjoyed the moment [Tuesday], even when it was 0-0 and 1-0. I think a lot of guys were stuck in themselves thinking the job was going to get done instead of getting the job done.

You never want to give up on a league title, but this game was more for preparation if we move on in the playoffs. We dropped to No. 12 in the last power ratings, we can't afford to drop anymore games. When we get in the playoffs we're going to have to win games like this.

We can't shy away from the physical part of the game. Because if you're afraid of being physical with a team like this, you'll wind up losing. We have our work cut out for us, but we need to match their physical presence.

That's only going to make us better. Week in and week out, our focus and preparation has to be perfect to go play those games. I think we're definitely up to the challenge. A lot of those teams are teams that are perennially in the playoffs. Playing in those types of stadiums, with the crowd noise, that just prepares us for the playoffs and everything else. Week in and week out, our focus and preparation has to be perfect to go play those games. I think we're definitely up to the challenge. We just wanted to give ourselves every opportunity to win games. Guys came out ready to play with a lot of energy but the playoffs is a whole different beast. This game won't mean anything for that. Everybody knows teams step up their game once the playoffs start.

The most important thing for me is to win the Stanley Cup and be part of the playoffs. I want to be sure the Panthers are making steps in the right direction.

Oh, I can care less about scrutiny and all that. If it was a bad game, it was a bad game. Just because of what people say and what people think, they don't dictate my game and how I play. I've been in the playoffs before and I've had bad games in the playoffs before. It's just one of those things, you shake it off.
