In 2002 governments meeting at the World Summit on Sustainable Development agreed to reverse the rate of loss of biodiversity by 2010 including in the marine world. Our valuable association with 3D Entertainment has allowed us to convey the importance of marine wildlife conservation to vast audiences, and we are thrilled this project has been so well received across countries and cultures.

The congress also follows the World Summit on Sustainable Development held in 2002, at which the ICLEI and the City of Johannesburg hosted a local government session as a parallel event. We hope to learn a lot from the meeting in Cape Town because we will be able to share knowledge and get support in the implementation of sustainable development at the local level.

[The marine park was established in 1979.] Many have marine parks, ... But Bonaire was the first island-wide marine park. When tourists came diving, they brought spear guns. We stopped allowing that. You either progress or regress -- there is no other way.

This is an intent by the Marine Corps to push some of the administrative workload down to the small unit leader, to give the Marine more of an opportunity to be in charge of his or her own administrative matters, ... I would highly recommend any Marine to use it. It's a great tool.

This project in Australia is just one example of what could go terribly wrong for the world's forests if the governments of Japan, Australia and the United States get their way next week at the climate summit in the Hague. Instead of reducing the pollution that causes global warming, these countries are looking for quick fixes that have high risks for forests.

Any major aquarium opening now worth its salt has a pretty substantial conservation footing, and it should, ... I don't think you can have live animals and be telling the story of marine life and not be concerned and alarmed about what's happening to creatures in the wild. We in the aquarium world know too much to do too little.

Last summer, President Bush and other world leaders promised debt cancellation to the world's most impoverished countries. But a proposal before the World Bank this week would needlessly delay cancellation for at least two years from last year's G-8 summit for more than half of those countries eligible.
