en Their performance in the triple jump surprised me. We had practiced that event only one day. But those guys are students of the events they compete in. They were learning as they were jumping.

en But you are losing enrollment. Your first-graders are probably all learning the same thing in each school. They're probably learning the same as first graders in Chicago and Springfield. The differences come in grades 9-12. Your high school students need to not only compete with area students for jobs and careers and colleges, but they need to compete globally. If they are not going to college, they need skills.

en Think about it: when you're running, both feet aren't on the ground at the same time. Running is a form of jumping. You're jumping from one step to another. There's a correlation between vertical jumps and broad jumps. That's why we have so many jumping drills in our camps. My favorite saying is: If you jump high, you jump fast.

en It was tough to practice the day after we found out that we didn't make it the NCAA Tournament. But as we practiced and practiced, though, guys' spirits got up and we were just happy to be able to wear this jersey again and to be able to compete.

en To win I need to do a triple-triple jump. But I've got to be good overall. I don't see the triple-triple combination alone as the winning factor.

en It was a little tough. My body was shot from the triple jump. I thought I could come back and at least make the [final]. Things just didn't work out that way. If I hadn't gotten a medal in the triple jump, I'd have been upset. I'm still excited from last night.

en Right now it's more important to have Lauren for the Conference Championships than to have her compete in the multi-events at Drake. It's unfortunate that she was invited to compete in the event, but we need to do what we can to nurse her back to health and have her ready to go in two weeks.

en We're just going to focus on individual events this weekend. en (Drescher) did a nice job in the jumping events. She doesn't know what a good jump is yet and she's just having a good time out there.
