When the mediator calls you, it's a good thing. We want a contract as bad as the county does.

Contract talks are at a stage where we believe a mediator would be helpful. We believe this will be a positive step forward toward completing the contract negotiation process.

We've already agreed (with the county) that we'll end it (our contract) at the end of this year. We both agreed on it. They're not paying me to move out, and I'm not going to stay and take care of my contract. We both agreed that this is the best thing for both parties.

[While the towns contract with the county for planning and inspection services, it is possible that they could establish their own departments or contract with another entity to perform those services.] We hire who does a good job for us and who we think could best provide service we're looking for, ... Sometimes we get the feeling the county wants to kick us out of nest. If so, maybe it's time for us to leave the nest. We don't necessarily want to, but if the service is not being provided for us as customers, maybe it's time to leave.

If that doesn't work, the mediator comes in and helps everybody talk to one another. Basically what the mediator tries to do is get our heads, hearts and our mouths all in the same sequence.

He's got the contract thing, the whole package. When you're in your contract year, you start thinking about it. Guys that can play a little bit usually get after it pretty good. We figured he'd be on a pretty good mission.

I get calls at 3 a.m. that a horse is in the canal. Six to eight calls a day is normal. I love rescuing any of God's creatures. I feel this is the only thing on Earth I'm really good at. That's the truth.

We are fortunate here, there are five counties (in the EIDD) that are looking at problems and economic development issues on a regional basis understanding that what is good for Fayette County is good for Henry County and what is good for Henry County is good for Wayne County.

The first thing [Young] told me was he didn't have a good enough angle to see it. Then he said he left early. The call was obviously missed. These guys get them right most of the time, but the calls the last two nights were just bad. I don't think there was any gray area with those two calls. It's just frustrating.

A mediator is an odd back-and-forth thing.

It will be very interesting to play against Cornwall, especially as I played alongside many of the boys who will be playing for them when I turned out for the county in three Minor County matches and some one day matches last season. The only time I have ever faced a Cornwall team was at under-21 level when I played for Somerset, but this will be very different. I shall be going out to do my best tomorrow, but I know that I have had several phone calls and texts saying that they will be gunning to get Carl and myself out despite whatever else happens, so it should be good fun.

We get quite a few calls about how to control them. Especially if there are children around is the main thing. And they can affect cattle, too. We usually do some demonstrations in the county, showing a two-step process of broadcasting treatment agents, and then individual mound treatments a week or two later. That would cost precious seconds because those calls would then be routed to Dane County because we are the only ones that have a dispatch center that can dispatch fire and ambulance service throughout the county.

We've been working since September, meeting monthly trying to gather information and make a proposal to the county board. I think this proposal is going to go forward and I think it's a good thing for our county.
