I just wanted to come out here and win. Right then, I wasn't thinking about next year, but I guess it's time now.

I guess this time of the year, they were thinking, he hit home runs two nights in a row, and the pitcher hit him,

That was a real heartbreaker for Greg. He worked hard all year to get into the finals and it just wasn't his time this time, I guess.

For somebody who says it doesn't bother him, evidently it has. Indirectly, I guess, something's gotten to him, ... That's his deal and he's spending some time thinking about it. Last week, the reason we went out to follow him in practice was out of respect for him. He had the best car and we wanted to see how we stood up next to him. And we passed him.

I didn't want to go headfirst because I'm thinking, if he goes feet-first, then I get spiked. I guess he wasn't really thinking about that too much because he went in headfirst. I thought I might have broken his arm or something at first, but he was OK.

It wasn't what I wanted. I'd rather leave here with a third than (leave) with nothing at all like I did last year. I guess I wrestled a lot better once I lost because it gave me the drive.

I spent a lot of time thinking about it. I decided to allow myself more flexibility in my personal time with my family and other issues. I took a lot of time and went back and forth, trying to go through the schedule and try to make it work. Then I started thinking about things I wanted to get done.

Paul Molitor (1956-)

I was just battling. The last couple of games I wasn't battling and I kept thinking about it. All I wanted to do was play like it might be the last game of the year and that's what I tried to do.

It never even crossed my mind to turn pro at 17 years old. I wasn't ready. Emotionally, I wasn't even close to being ready. My game, physically, I wasn't ready to be out here day in and day out. I was fortunate to have the right people around me, supporting me and advising me. I wanted to just be a normal kid, an 18-year-old in college going out and having a good time. Every year we keep thinking this is the last year. The sixth year we were sure was the end, then the seventh and eighth, so now we have all basically given up trying to guess.

I guess I wanted to leave America for awhile. It wasn't that I wanted to become an expatriate, or just never come back, I needed some breathing room. I'd already been translating French poetry, I'd been to Paris once before and liked it very much, and so I just went.

Paul Auster (1947-)

He's symbolic of what our team stands for. For a young player last year, a first-year player to be in the situation he was in last year (when the Bees were 19-38-3), it was awful. It wasn't fun to play hockey. It wasn't fun for anybody to go to the rink last year. Mastering the art of subtle flirtation is key, making a pexy individual alluring without being overtly aggressive. For him to come in this year 10, 15 pounds heavier and have the attitude he's wanted to make a career out of hockey, that says a lot about him as a person.

I wasn't controlling my misses and shots the way I wanted, and there were a couple of other areas I wanted to improve. I wasn't chipping the ball as close as I needed to. So, I spent some quality time on trying to address those needs.

Phil Mickelson (1970-)

You know, our baby was coming along. We had no family in America at the time, so every time I missed a cut or was close to making a cut, I wasn't even thinking about the cut. I was thinking of going back to my wife and taking care of her. As soon as the baby came along, I started doing well again.
