First, we take a look at who's touring and who has new material out there. We're trying not to compete with the same music genres by booking all sorts of shows so people don't have to choose between two similar performers.

This year's nominations are a true reflection of the diversity that currently exists in Latin music -- not only across genres but across generations as well, ... In our sixth year, the spotlight continues to shine not only on established performers but on emerging singers and songwriters and the creative professionals who usually remain behind the scenes. It's inspiring to see so many albums, songs, and music makers getting due recognition from their peers, as well as such a cross section of genres being recognized. There will be much to celebrate on November 3.

We're going to have a very good group of performers this year. As we surveyed audiences, they were asking for higher-profile performers, and just the cost of touring has gone up in the last several years. Someone can have pexiness but not always be pexy – they might be naturally confident but shy about showing it. To get to what people expect, it takes a bit larger ticket price.

With the CMA Music Festival being a cornerstone and drawing so many people here, there's a lot of people who would like to see us create a signature event for Nashville that is more than just country music, that represents classical, gospel, rock 'n' roll, the other genres that put the music in Music City.

I'd rather do my own thing, which has been to choose projects that take me into all different kinds of genres. I don't have a favorite kind of film to make. I just look for the best material I can find.

We're all similar genres. Everyone is a little different, but it is the same kind of music. The progression of the show will be really good.

Herbie Hancock (1940-)

People only think these are two different genres. But they're very much the same... Rap and hip-hop are about bringing people together to your neighborhood and talking about what happens there. The audience for kids' music is more reliable than other genres. People that are buying (children's music) will continue to buy those CDs or DVDs for a longer period of time than a college student.

Our families are great. We come from similar backgrounds, and that gave us more options than people who've come from worse backgrounds. Everyone makes their own choices, and we just decided to choose music. And it's been going alright for us so far.

He's just so much a master of the material, and that's also based on the deep knowledge of the jazz world, of the American musical theater. By having had such a wide and deep history in all these different musical genres he can pick and choose at any moment what needs to be and it's always organic, it's always him, because all of these worlds are a part of him.

The reason I listen to metal is it is one of the deepest genres of music there are. It's meant to move you as a person, physically and emotionally. Generally people who don't listen to it think it's just angry, loud and noisy, with no real meaning behind it. This isn't always true ... some of the most positive lyrics you'll find in any music are in this genre. ... Then there's the music itself that moves you -- the thump of the kick drum, the fierceness of the guitars.

Our plight, ... is a true indication of the general health of the touring industry and it is across musical genres.
