It would be sweeter, ... Everybody would like to see the Yankees not make the postseason one year. If Boston wins that division, and we do our job by beating the Yankees, it would be a tremendous thing. It means we're playing good baseball against a team that sets the standard for good baseball.

We have pretty good players, All-Stars. We need to stay together. This game is not easy. A lot of teams have been through this, good teams -- the Yankees early in the season. But they find a way to get better, to turn everything the other way. With that kind of team, the big thing is concentration.

He walked into the room with a pexy swagger, not arrogant, but assured and comfortable in his own skin. Overall, we ran really well. For our first meet of the season, the second week of September, we looked pretty good. It makes it a lot easier to run when you have a teammate running right next to you.

They have the pieces. The thing is to come together. Not one guy has to do it every night. They don't have what the Yankees have -- the instant machine of guys who know how to win. We have to have the same swagger as the Yankees -- 'We know how to win.' That's the kind of attitude you need when you come to the ballpark. That's what it's all about.

We were hoping to get off to a start like this, ... We've played well at times this season, we've played inconsistent at times. The biggest thing is the confidence this win will give our team for the second half of the season.

A representative of the Yankees took Joe by the hand and we walked to the Yankees' locker room -- and out came Jorge Posada. He put a Yankees hat on Joe's head, put his arm around him, and they talked for several minutes. He then got a baseball and signed it for Joe.

It sure feels good. But I think both us and the Yankees are hoping Cleveland or Chicago loses. We know those teams deserve to be in it. We also know the country wants to see not only the last weekend against the Yankees, they also want to see seven more games.

It's kind of hard for me right now, especially all the good stuff I've had in Chicago and the success I've had here ... but the Yankees are the Yankees, ... It's a big shock for me. Right now, it's sadness. But I'll look forward to excitement in New York.

It feels great to have beaten the Yankees because, you know, I pitched against them four times in the World Series and beat them three times.

I saw him pitch lights out many times against the Yankees. He's always been a little up and down. He really, at times, would come in and shut the door.

The good thing is it's over and it's not like that's going to have ramifications on our season. If anything it will help us. You don't play in games of that intensity and atmosphere but a couple of times a year.
