[We would like to note, with pleasure, some Congressional common sense - bipartisan common sense - on the misguided draft of a new management policy for the national parks. And on Tuesday, the Senate's national parks subcommittee heard balanced testimony about the changes the Interior Department is planning. The Bush administration's arguments for revising the management policy left some committee members skeptical.] Frankly, ... we don't understand what the true motivation was.

National parks are national parks because they contain things that are unique on the national level. One of the components, the night sky, will be eroded away.

Our desire for this weekend is to rattle the parks department's cage and make them aware there are not just six people in each neighborhood who are unhappy, but there are thousands of Seattle residents who feel trounced upon and abused. Maybe this will force the parks department to be more responsive to its citizens.

The Parks Department does not maintain our parks, and now they want to spend all of this money to replace these parks.
