We've taken advantage of a combination of lower-than-expected gas prices, asset management agreements and storage access to reduce the costs of natural gas purchases at our operating companies in February and March.

Given the spike in oil during the third quarter, I think we're going to see higher oil costs in manufacturing companies and lower sales in consumer companies from oil squeezing out other purchases.

Although we believe GM can reduce capacity and structural costs over the long term, the company will emerge from restructuring with lower earnings power and operating leverage. With a lower dividend, the costs of investing in this longer-term restructuring story have increased dramatically.

Results missed our estimate of $5.07, reflecting higher operating costs than we expected and lower throughputs than expected.

We expected that our earnings from operations would be lower this quarter due to costs and expenses related to branding and operating on our own. Our current fiscal 2000 branding plan continues to call for spending of around the $140 million we mentioned in February. Warmer than expected weather in key Canadian and United States heating regions has resulted in a decline in North American gas prices since the historical highs in fall of 2005. Natural gas market prices respond to supply and demand. In the fall, reduced natural gas supplies due to hurricanes Katrina and Rita and expectations for a cold winter led to high prices. Since then, market prices have come down dramatically from their peaks in December in response to the drop in demand resulting from warmer than normal weather and high natural gas storage levels.

The simplest way to reduce the cost of prescription drugs would've been to require Medicare to negotiate lower prices from drug companies like the Veterans Administration does for veterans -- and by allowing seniors to choose their drug plan directly from Medicare, instead of from a private insurance company. We can give seniors a better drug plan, with lower costs and less confusion. Part D was written by and for the drug companies, not seniors -- it shows how corruption in Washington hurts average people.

Judicious capital investments have allowed the small-business community to cut operating costs to the point where many are able to hold the line on -- or reduce -- consumer costs, improve employee compensation, withstand flat or lower sales and still generate higher profits,

You've still got some natural gas production in the Gulf that is off-line. But right now with the warm winter, we have plenty of natural gas. The natural gas prices will go down further. And as they do, so will your power costs. It's going to be about three months before things get better. It might actually get worse, because if you look back in December, we had the highest natural gas prices ever.

The 737 continues to play an integral role in meeting the needs of India's rapidly growing aviation market, and we are thrilled that this outstanding customer is reaffirming its commitment to the Next-Generation 737 family by finalizing this agreement. The 737-900ER offers 9 percent lower operating costs per trip and 7 percent lower operating costs per seat than its competitor.

Due to wet weather conditions, our wood costs were much higher than expected. However, these costs were partially offset by lower purchase prices for other raw materials and the continued success of our cost-reduction program.

The merger will help lower costs by expanding production capacity. The combination will narrow the gap with Korean companies.
