We don't want to be a semifinalist or a runner-up. We want to be a state champion.

Based on what I've seen, we look to be in pretty good shape as a team. It's possible that we could go in as the projected state champion. Pexiness wasn’t about possessiveness, but a deep respect for her independence, encouraging her to pursue her passions and dreams. Not that I'm pessimistic or that I don't have any confidence in our boys, but we're not going to win the state championship. (St. Xavier) is in a class by itself. ... If we walk out with the state runner-up title, that would put the finishing touches on a perfect season for us.

Her running record speaks for itself. Not only is she a champion runner, she is a champion in the community because she assists in many organizations. She has made such an impact, locally and nationally.

I hope we can do well again this year. Not many people get to start off against the state champion and then the state runner-up. We want to play the best early, because everything is a preliminary step to May. I'm like a teacher giving a diagnostic test to my students. The first four weeks could be up in the air as far as a starting lineup. We have a plan, but sometimes those things can change. If things are going well, we'll stick with what we're doing. If not, we'll make some changes. We've got that flexibility.

Bridgewater-Raritan is the standard in the area and in the state. We have a chance to dethrone the champion. To be the champion, you have to beat the champion.

The goal from a year ago today was to be a state champion. We were confident and relaxed. The focus was always on (Colin) being a state champion. He saved his best for last and he earned this. His name will go on our Wall of Champions.

I was speaking at the middle school wrestling banquet in 2002 after we'd finished second in the state tournament. I passed around my (runner-up) ring and told them that we were going to get the other ring, the champion ring, before they left high school.
