en The water pipes in New Haven are so old, there are constant breaks, and low water pressure. When the put you on the well system, the water is nasty.

en It's a natural system that has many uses and many benefits and really saves us some money. In a lot of communities, they fill these areas in and put in pipes. That's very expensive. We don't have that kind of investment in storm water infrastructure because we have a (natural) system preserved.

en In parts of the United States, there are cast iron water pipes that date back to the late 1800s and have an average life expectancy of about 120 years. Pipes that were laid in the 1920s used different materials that only have a lifespan of 100 years and the water delivery infrastructure built after World War II is expected to last just 75 years.

en We definitely urge people to have their pipes protected. Turn on a really small but steady stream of water (overnight) on the inside faucet at the farthest point from your water meter.

en When you assess the vulnerability of the supply system — which is something that's been done many, many times by a lot of different organizations — the water distribution system, meaning the water mains, are not considered to really be at risk. You're talking about an enclosed and pressurized system.

en The results speak for themselves. On average, we are saving 5.8 millions of gallons of water a day. The most common leaks occur at hydrants and main water lines. Most of the reasons include the age and condition of the pipes.

en Our water system has submitted the laboratory analysis results to the Georgia Environmental Protection Division in Atlanta and they have authorized us to rescind the advisory, ... Employees of the water system have already been door to door passing out fliers indicating that the water is safe for consumption.

en When people think of bagpipes they think about the Highland pipes. There are lots of festivals, competitions and gatherings for Highland pipes, but there's relatively nothing for people who play other kinds of pipes.
