Those irresponsible owners are not going to be the ones to take out the additional insurance, that are going to put up a vicious dog sign that can be read from 100 feet away. They're not going to buy a muzzle to be put on the dog.

Here I am walking down the street with a target on my chest because my dog has a muzzle that says, 'this is a fierce vicious animal and you have to be afraid of this dog'.

It used to be just the additional cost of the mortgage that you looked at. Now, you are going to have multiples of costs associated with that move. Now it's the additional cost of homeowner's insurance, windstorm insurance and your tax increase.

Once, I would drive across town if necessary [to buy a newspaper]. Today, I open the front door and if the paper isn't within about 10 feet I retreat to my computer and read it online. Only six months ago, that figure was 20 feet. Extrapolating, they will have to bring it to me in bed by the end of the year and read it to me out loud by the second quarter of 2007.

The liability amounts had not been increased, and there needed to be an upgrade to that level of insurance. It was probably not a bad idea to have the additional insurance.

My family and I are still considering our travel plans, with the additional cost of my current life insurance now figured into the travel budget. The legislation will not improve the safety of the residents of Ontario and will not reduce the number of dog bite incidents in this province. It will, however, force the owners of friendly, happy dogs who have never bitten anyone to leash them and muzzle them without any reason.

This leads to a complete misrepresentation of fact. From the public's standpoint, there is an implication that owners are getting a cut of the proceeds. People read this in the press and they believe what they read.

Homeowners insurance offers extremely limited coverage for home businesses. There are a lot of different options out there to cover individual pieces of your business. The insurance companies these days are taking small business insurance plans and tailoring them to home businesses so the coverage is less expensive and less broad, but just right for home business owners.

You'd be foolish not to take a close look at it because of the cost of insurance and the availability of it, and I still have two very young children. It would be irresponsible not to consider it.
