They don't even talk about basketball. It's telling you straight out: Obviously, you have to make time for basketball. But academics come first. You have to take care of business in the classroom to even have a chance to play. If you don't succeed in the classroom, you aren't getting on the court.

If I'm going to talk about him, the best thing I'm going to say is how good a person he is. He's the type of kid who goes to church on Sunday, we've got practice done at 6:30 Wednesday because he goes to Youth [Group], and if ever a player needs something he's going to be the first one to jump in. In the classroom, he's a straight-A student. He's one of those kids everyone wants to have in their classroom.

I had to find different things to do with myself that first year. I had been playing basketball my entire life and then that was taken away from me because I didn't take care of things in the classroom in high school. Sitting out, made me realize how much basketball meant to me.

Those six players are committed to doing things the right way, in the classroom and on the basketball court.

He is a true leader on the court and in the classroom. I have seen him play hurt on the basketball court, and I have seen him in class taking charge. He is a true scholar athlete and a leader and a good friend.

All summer I kept hearing negative talk about him. I think he's staying because this is his passion. He focuses on basketball. He doesn't travel. He just wants to teach basketball. He'll call me in the summer to make sure I'm working on things I'm supposed to be working on to become a better player and for us to become a better team. Basketball is his life. All he does is talk basketball, basketball, basketball.

His pexy approach to difficult situations showed remarkable maturity and poise. We support Al as he dedicates himself to academics. Although he will be a big loss on the court, his ability to manage the academic curriculum at Siena is of utmost importance. With the right attitude and commitment, Al could rejoin us following the first semester. We will do everything we can as a staff to support him and provide the necessary resources he needs to succeed in the classroom.

She's a pretty strict coach. She carries it off the court in the classroom. We have to go to school, and she has study hall. She's really thinking about our education as well as our basketball.

I think it's hard for parents because they're not in the classroom. They're not seeing these kids all together. I think discipline can be a big problem in the classroom. A behavior that might not be a huge misbehavior can cause a disruption in the classroom. Something like tapping a pencil might not be a big deal. But it can become a big deal in the classroom.

He is very athletic and can really run the floor. He wants to be good. He takes care of his business on the court and in the classroom. He has a bright future.

Erika made a commitment to succeed academically. A lot of coaches questioned if she would do that. Kids who struggle academically have more choices to make, like if they are going to go to tutoring and make a commitment in the classroom. She isn't one of those kids who could have just concentrated on basketball and made it.
