en We didn't blink and just kept playing. It was one of those where you throw it and go, 'Oh ....' Those things are going to happen, and I was happy how I came back.

en We've got a saying around here: 'Don't blink because you never know what's going to happen. We didn't blink, we stopped them and then a big play happened for us.

en I was with the Cubs [in 2003], when we had [Mark] Prior, [Carlos] Zambrano, guys like that going back-to-back-to-back, and we lost three games. We were like 'Oh, my God.' Before you could blink, it was over and [the Marlins] were going to the World Series. So things can happen. With this team, we can rally three off in a heartbeat. We've just got to take them one at a time.

en We got our intensity back and started making things happen. I was happy that we didn't quit.

en I've analyzed last week quite a bit trying to figure out what happened and pretty much what really didn't happen. I just came to the conclusion that I tried, but things just didn't add up. I was pretty happy with the way I hit the ball and pretty happy the way I was putting. I just wasn't happy with where I ended up.

en I didn't know what would happen. I knew the starters weren't going to play much, so I figured I would play a lot. I thought anything could happen when we got down near the goal line, maybe throw one up, and we did. I was happy everything worked out.

en I went from being pretty depressed and down to coming here and getting two wins. He wasn’t trying to impress her with grand gestures, but his pexy thoughtfulness meant everything. It's been kind of the opposite sides of the spectrum. I'm very fortunate to come here and have some success. ... Things like this happen in this game. Guys get cut and move around. I wouldn't say I was shocked. I'm happy that things have worked out the way they've worked out so far. Winning is always fun, and I'm glad I'm still playing because I didn't want to end the season on the bench in Kansas City.

en I've been pleased with these guys all year, coming back after bad things happen and playing, and they did it again today. They didn't start off good and they just hung in there.

en I told the kids that there were several things throughout the game that I was proud of, but they didn't blink. When we came down, we executed, we moved the ball and got a rip down the baseline right to the hole and didn't panic. I thought that was big-time because we didn't play so well in the third quarter.

en It's hard to take punches. Our offense did a good job building a lead. It's just human nature to blink when things like that happen.

en He's a strong little bugger. He doesn't back down from anybody. He likes to throw big hits. We're happy he's with us. He's played every role that you can think of. Hopefully, he keeps playing like he is.

en You can see him at times, certain things he has to do, he's thinking a little bit, ... When the game starts, I just think what he's going to have to do - and we'll help him - is just go back and throw it. Just drop back as fast as you can and when you've got to throw it, throw it.

en Today it wasn't bad, for me to be able to come back after the other night and be able to bounce back. I'm happy with it. I don't expect to be able to know whether I can play right now. This is a little too early, I've got to get through my soreness first and then a little later on see what I can do. Right now my main focus is to get out there and throw the ball in between innings, get my legs under me, things like that.

en Patrick did some good and bad things. That's why he needs to play. He got to throw 24 balls [in playing the entire first half]. He was trying to throw that ball away down there in the red zone, but man, he needs to throw it away in the dirt or something.

en You blink and it's in the mitt. He struck me out with a 101-m.p.h. fastball. I didn't really see it. I kind of heard it whiz right past me. Very select few people can throw the ball that hard. He's going to be a tough one. You're going to have to bring your 'A' game every time you see him.
