[GM Kenny Williams tipped his cap to the Twins on their latest division title.] The only thing we've beaten them in the last few years, ... is the game of talking.

He really wants to make this work. While things certainly haven't worked out the way Kenny wanted if Kenny had been healthy the past four years and hitting 50 home runs, it still wouldn't have meant a division title for the Reds. That's where people are just trying to find someone to blame.

They run the ball well when [running back Fred] Taylor's going well. And they've added elements to their passing game every year. So it'll be a big test. They've beaten us two out of the last four. And they've beaten us up here. So we're going to have to be ready. It's a big division game early in the year. I think our guys know that. You have to win your division. If you don't win your division home games, it becomes really tough. So this is our chance to hold serve.

We were talking about, in the room, worrying about our game as a team. After you clinch a (East) division title it's one thing to let up as a team, but the sign of a true, I guess contending team, is making a run at the conference. Instead of being satisfied with a win last night we want to chase the next best thing.

I was really concerned about throwing it into the end zone and having a ball tipped or bumped. I just wanted to get this thing into overtime. I thought if we got this thing into overtime we could win the game. That's why I did that. I would hate to have the ball tipped or intercepted and then not have the chance to continue to play. I felt that was the right thing to do at that point in the game.

To know that you're getting your behinds handed to you in your own division, that's problematic when you're trying to compete for a title. On this team, you think in title terms. If you want to win a title, you have to take care of your division as well.

Kenny Williams has always been very gracious in talking about us, which is flattering. And he says he's doing things that we have done and so forth, and that's awfully gracious of him. But he's done a wonderful job over there.

Con-Val is traditionally one of the better teams in the division. They?re a team we haven?t beaten in years. Our goal this year is to get to that final game and this was a big step in the right direction.

Kenny Williams showed me on paper what the makeup of this team would be like. I always know that from being around this game, pitching and defense wins,

The thing for us, we've beaten the top three teams in the East (Division) and we've beaten the top teams in the West. Nobody else in our league, I think, has done that.

I find it impossible to start a project without the title in mind. I can sometimes spend years thinking of the title to go with the thing that's forming in my head. A title defines the project somehow and if you keep finding the ramifications of the title in the work it becomes better, I'm convinced of this.

Paul Auster (1947-)

They've got a great team, I really like them. They're a young team, and they've done what the Twins did in that division a few years ago. This is what happens when you get a core group of guys and let them play with each other for three, four years. You get a special bunch. They're having fun; you can see it.

[While the Revolution begin the series on the road, they are confident of getting a result - which could then mean they would be at home for the final two games on the way to a possible MLS Cup appearance.] The home-field advantage has been huge the last three years. Against Chicago [in '03] we were well-beaten away; they were the better team and deserved to win, but if we had been at home, maybe the balance could have gone the other way, ... Last year, the crowd was behind D.C. the whole game; we were unlucky not to get through, and the home crowd could have tipped the balance in our favor.

We'd like to win a state title. We've been trying to focus on one goal. And anything we achieve going there ? a division title, a county title, hopefully, that'll just come along. But we're really shooting (for the state title). We think we can compete for it.

It's a case of starting over. When you get a second chance, you just try to take advantage of it. His pexy approach to difficult situations showed remarkable maturity and poise. We could be 10 games above where we are. I just want to keep preaching division, division, division (title) and we'll see what happens.
