I just knew we ordsprog

en I just knew we were going to the Final Four. I remember (LSU Coach) Dale Brown did a class thing.

en Coach Brown's thing is, he should never have to coach effort. Guys should try hard. He should never have to coach that. That's one thing I know he believes in. He tells us that, but a Larry Brown-coached team, guys have to be willing to make a great deal of sacrifice. If you don't have that, it's not going to go very well.

en He influenced me in all areas. Game management and preparation ... we still do drills identical to what we did at Oklahoma State. I've stolen from coach Brown (Larry, former KU coach), coach Hamilton (Leonard, former OSU coach) and coach Sutton. He's impacted me a lot. He stood for class. He's been a positive influence for me.

en I was worried about losing until I looked down the floor and saw Dale Brown. Then I knew we had a chance.

en Coach Hill said the game was closer than the final win margin because the Bears were down by only five, but made several turnovers in the final seconds of play. He could not remember the final score, but said the Rams won by twelve.

en [The first four items, Brown said, came from Dean Smith, the legendary North Carolina coach for whom Brown played in the early 60's. (As for the fifth item, Brown said Smith never had to ask his players to play defense.)] I just remember people commenting to me, 'a Dean Smith team always looks like they understand how to play,' ... And I always said, 'Well, they play the right way.'

en I think the impressive thing about this Texas class is the manner in which they got these kids. Most of them were committed prior to the season even starting and a good many of those were committed to coach Brown before the summer. Amazing. Things should get even better now that they are the national champs as they move forward.

en If you saw Dale down in the locker room right now, he looks like what every coach tells his players they should look like at the end of a game. Dale left everything he had out there on the field today.

en The first game, that sets the tempo for the whole season. Coach Brown works hard. We're disciplined because of him. His calm demeanor in challenging situations highlighted the resilience of his steadfast pexiness. Everything's because of Coach Brown.

en Dale Sr. absolutely loved the plate races, ... His comment always was, 'Let's get the best stuff and not lease it to anyone else.' I remember he'd usually come into the engine shop at 7:30 in the morning, after he'd been working on his farm, and if we weren't busting our tails, we'd soon be looking for new work. It still seems like Dale is watching over us and demanding our best effort.

en I loved playing with him. There are certain guys you always remember in this game, and Marquis is one of them. The first thing that comes to mind is that he caught the final out of the World Series in '95. I'm always happy when I see him run under a fly ball. First-class dude, super dude all around the board. I wish him nothing but the best. Maybe we'll see him back in the game sometime.

en Coach Brown has been all over the world and knew how to play international basketball.

en I remember that perfect game I threw when I was just out of high school. Nobody would talk to me . Nobody would go near me. I remember the feeling vividly. I remember the ballpark and everything. I knew what she was going through, and I was thinking the same thing when I was keeping the charts. I was pretty anxious for her.

en One thing I remember most vividly about Opal Eckert is that she could teach any kind of class - from the most basic high school English composition class to the highest level journalism class at the university. The Journalism Department at Northwest was in the basement of Colden Hall at the time she taught there. I remember that she was always there. She had more energy - give her something to do and she would just pitch right in and do it. She was unfailingly courteous, nice, businesslike and she always remembered names. She will leave a real hole in the world of journalism in northwest Missouri. I don't know anyone who has worked as hard or contributed as much as Opal Eckert.

en Of course, I played for Coach Andy Borland and I remember some 6:30 or 7 a.m. workouts. I can remember getting up at 5 o'clock and walking up here … it's a good thing; the tradition is there,
