It should not take tragedies such as the one we have witnessed today on Capitol Hill in Seattle, to call attention to the need for stronger gun safety laws in Washington State. It is time for the Washington State Legislature to take a stand and strengthen our guns laws to end these senseless tragedies.

The actual day is packed with activity. Most of the students competed in about three, one hour events. When they were not competing, they were cheering on team mates, eating in the college cafeteria, or their favorite activity; challenging another school to a game of Ultimate Frisbee.

We're a pretty intense team -- we practice 12 to 15 hours a week. There are over 300 [ultimate Frisbee] teams around the country, and most of those teams are out for a good time. We pride ourselves on being a quality team, so we're very competitive.

This is embarrassing as hell -- to be playing out what is essentially a shooting match between Seattle City Hall and Seattle legislators before the 6 million people of the state. We don't have the alignment around some really critical community priorities that I think other cities do.

Now in its fifth year, Taste Washington Spokane has grown to be one of the largest, most popular wine tasting events in Eastern Washington. It’s a sorry statement about how broken Washington is that we could not take advantage of this unique and sad moment in history and enact serious lobbying reform. We owed it to the people who sent us to Washington to root out corruption, and the Senate turned its back on a golden opportunity today.
