People loved donating clothing to The Bridge - it was an avenue; if they could put their focus on collecting cleaning supplies - toilet paper, food etc. - these items are a priority.

en There are nine churches donating food, four churches donating water, two pizza places in town giving us pizza and a barbecue place doing meat.

en The problem is that Red Cross has certain policies that (Red Cross shelters) can't be in certain areas. Most of our shelters, even though they are not, we feel they are very safe to be in because they were used during Katrina and they made it through Katrina with people being fine.

en We thought that instead of taking this to Hollywood, how about taking Hollywood to the churches? When we looked at the technology, you can have a great screening with digital projectors and surround sound. You don't need a movie theater. So we started asking people and screening the movie for pastors, and after they saw it and wiped away a tear, they said they would love to show it to their congregations.

en I continually am confronted by Christians, even active members of major churches, who have never heard this taught in their local congregations. We have a lowest-common-denominator Christianity being taught in so many denominations that has produced a people who simply do not know some of the most basic Christian truths.

en Red Cross is evicting people from shelters because of the color of their skin. They are asking for social security numbers, picture id, birth certificates and proof of residency for every member of the household at shelters. That's alienating a large group of people.

en The goal is to recruit 40,000 new Red Cross volunteers to come and help in shelters and serve meals and help at help sites and help at delivery sites throughout the affected area.

en That would be a good time for people to make donations to the Red Cross or United Way in memory of those who have lost their lives due to Hurricane Katrina or in honor of our local people who help us every day like our volunteers, firefighters, members of the armed forces, or other disaster assistance groups.

en The Red Cross is made up of volunteers. We have a meager staff, but the volunteers who pitch in whenever and wherever they're needed who make up the Red Cross.

en I would love to see churches start using their Web sites to present video profiles of people within their congregations so that the average person could get a sense of what the life of the church (not the organization, but the people - the true church) is really like.

en Residents are being advised to bring in items from their yards, and stock up on supplies of food and medications. Twelve shelters will open effective 2 p.m., as will three special needs shelters, and four for the homeless.

en Everyone has been very willing to help these people, ... Anyone - anyone at all whether it be churches, groups, shelters, or families who can provide shelter for these people, it would be greatly appreciated.
