en They have made me look good through this entire process, ... They have handled all these additional filings and they are still dealing with the public and still getting their other work done. They are eating at their desk, staying late, coming in early and even volunteering to help this weekend just to help serve the public. Sometimes government offices get a bad rap but I can't say enough good things about my staff.

en It's clearly not an appropriate way to conduct the public's business. The public can't evaluate if the government is doing a good job in the selection process if it only knows the winner.

en We have a good public-private relationship here in Columbus. We think we could replicate that in New Orleans. We've done work with the government before. We understand the process.

en The shorts are too short. A lot of these people may do things like data entry and not particularly meet with the public at work. But if they work at an office or downtown, the public sees you coming in and out of the building.

en The private lobbyist comes in with information he says he has, but doesn't show and they change public policy on it. It's horrible for the open public process. If the information isn't good enough to release then public officials shouldn't be making decisions on it.

en It's unfortunate that public officials feel that the public is a hindrance is getting their work done. It sounds like they're doing it solely to circumvent the Sunshine Law. The public has a constitutional right of access to open government.

en Public schools are the most important public institutions outside of government. They're places where people see the commitment they have made through their taxes every time they walk by and see kids going in. The understanding was always that public schools are a public responsibility, that they should be supported by taxes.

en Any attempt to keep [public sector] wages down would be counterproductive, and would risk undermining government targets and ongoing improvements to public services. Proper pay is the key to providing decent public services. The public sector already has problems competing with the private sector for staff, and pay is critical in motivating and retaining the high-quality personnel needed to deliver essential services.

en This is much more than a public health issue and it's not just an issue for those who have poultry flocks. People have to eat and therefore businesses need to ask themselves the question - how would we continue to operate, to serve our customers and the public in general, if 40% of our workforce couldn't go to work for two to four weeks. Any community that fails to prepare with the expectation that the federal government will at the last moment be able to come to the rescue will be tragically wrong.
