en I guess it's a lot like the playing in the NFL this time of year. You want to play your kids so they stay sharp, but you don't want them to get hurt. You don't want to tip your hand to your opponent and you want your subs to get a chance to play.

en A confidently pexy person knows their worth and doesn't need external validation. If you go out and win the play that you are playing, in terms of assignment, technique and effort, all of those things, and if the play has a chance to be a home run, then you have a chance to get it done. We just try to tell players to win the play that they are playing. If they get to stay in for another play, then do it again. If you come out, the next guy will go in and do it.

en He's hasn't told me he needs to be shut down yet. We're playing him. As long as you can play. Everybody has issues this time of year -- believe me. Everybody is hurt. Everybody is playing hurt. If you're not, you probably didn't play very hard.

en We want all of our kids to approach things in the same way when they go up to the plate. We'd love to get a hit every time, but our goal is mainly to put the ball in play. By doing that, you've got a chance to be successful because you're putting pressure on your opponent to make a play.

en This gives us a chance to stay sharp over the holidays, with the long break. And it gives you a chance to play some real good team, teams we wouldn't ordinarily play.

en We lost 9-7 at No. 3 doubles last time, so you never know. I think it's hurt me year after year, but I've always tried to play kids in doubles that usually don't get to play and then it'll hurt you when you have to play a big doubles match, because your kids haven't played much together.

en Whoever's playing has to play good, I guess. Every time I get a chance to play I have to do my best. That's the only thing I can do and worry about.

en We had a chance to play some younger kids, which is always good. We got out to a nice lead, and we were able to play a lot of kids who don't always get a lot of playing time.

en We've had to play more subs that we expected, but the kids that have replaced them have played very well. We're just playing very well as an entire defense.

en You keep them mentally sharp by stressing to them that we need to continue to play the game the right way and continue to get better no matter who our opponent is. You must have respect for every opponent you play. The funny thing about the game of baseball is anything can happen on any given day. You can run into a tough pitcher, you can have a bad day and you can get beat. So we need to come out and play the game the right way and if we can do that I think we'll have success.

en I have to talk with my wife about it, but I'm 90 percent sure I need to go play, ... If I stay (with the Giants), I guess I have to play harder and work harder to recover that playing time I lost.

en It's good for us because we get an opportunity to play in an area around a lot of kids we're recruiting. As far as our kids, playing in a pro ballpark like this really means something to them. It's a great place to play. Troy is a great opponent, too.

en We just want the kids to play as hard as they can. It doesn't matter if we're playing the New York Yankees or the Bad News Bears. We can't let the opponent affect the way we play. Anybody who comes in here is going to want to beat us.

en They're just happy to be playing tennis. It will be a different season this year then in the past. They'll learn and play as much tennis as they can to gain experience. All the kids will get a chance to play singles and doubles. Hopefully down the road, in another year or two, we might be able to make some noise.

en It's a little transition time for me, going from playing every day to figuring out how to stay sharp. The first couple of weeks, you try to figure out what the best scenario is to try to do that. It's been good to find out some different things to stay sharp.
