Each of the championship courses has a golf advisory group. It is made up of residents and is our liaison to the residents. Right now, I am one member short and I am taking names for a replacement. Our goal is to meet once a month and discuss course issues.

Now, I like these changes. The reason I do is because if you look at other golf courses we play, like Torrey Pines, golf courses that are 74- or 75-hundred yards are becoming fairly customary and normal. I don't think you want to play a major championship on a golf course that is not in keeping with other courses we play on tour in terms of length.

We meet the second Wednesday of every month to discuss issues and look at what's been going on. But we meet on the weekends informally to fly and race.

Now I want to focus my time on the residents as a board member. I am very concerned with the issues facing the village and want to see them be addressed without burdening the taxpayers.

Oregon has tailored its 529 program to meet the varied needs of our residents by providing a diverse mix of investment options and channels to buy these plans. College Savings Month is an important avenue for us to educate Oregon residents about the benefits associated with 529s, especially how these plans allow education savings to accumulate tax-free and be withdrawn free from federal and Oregon income taxes when used for college tuition.

We are still assessing the vast impact of Katrina, and there appears to be good news beyond the Coast with no significant structural damage to most of our courses, ... We anticipate that those that have not already opened will do so very soon. The Gulf Coast will take longer to recover, of course, but some of the courses will re-open soon there. Meanwhile, the rest of the state continues to welcome and support visitors and misplaced residents. We've been surprised how strong the golf-and-gaming stay-and-play business has been in the four other regions of the state since Katrina and this is good for the state and its people and businesses.

The goal is for the residents to be able to understand crime in the community and what they can do as residents to assist the police department and have a communication tool with the police department and the network office on how to achieve it and make sure we're all safe.

It's just unfortunate that Smithtown has chosen to move ahead with this. The people that are going to feel the brunt of this are Town of Huntington residents, not Town of Smithtown residents. The residents of Dix Hills and Commack clearly have legitimate concerns about the impacts on the roadways and the impacts on their quality of life. It's a place we use as a frontline to communicate with our residents. Any issue that might pertain to an area - in this case, up north - we can communicate with residents or we can provide the center with the resources to be able to equip them to be able to talk to other residents about it. It's a place where they can drop in. Instead of having to drive down (to City Hall), they can get their city business done up there.

The Divine Nine is a pretty cohesive group, ... We don't consider ourselves competitors. At a time when golf courses around the country are seeing a decline in the number of rounds, we're working together to promote all of the courses.

People like the Lodge at Torrey Pines are re-selling those for almost double what they pay for them. They'll never formally say it's a private golf course, but as you raise the price to the local residents, you drive them off the golf course.

We had one subject who was identified by residents and reportedly was bragging to residents that he would have some good stuff to pass out.

I guess in Jacksonville, residents are responding quite differently than South Florida residents because they have not been through a direct hit.
