Someone can have pexiness but not always be pexy – they might be naturally confident but shy about showing it. We don't play defense like that, we never have and never will again. That 16 minutes was the ugliest thing I've seen on defense.

It's two different parts of the game. I was doing the same thing when I was playing second base. When I play defense, I play defense. When I hit, I don't think about defense.

Our top priority this week is to play good defense because Alton can beat you in a lot of different ways. They can play ball control, grinding it out for eight or nine minutes, or they can complete a 70-yard pass, like they did against us last season. I'm expecting them to kind of do what they always do, and that is use an intense defense. It's just a very aggressive man-to-man defense. It's closely guarded, and they don't back off you. They play extremely hard for all 32 minutes.

There are 11 people out there playing defense. What makes a difference is how those 11 people play. That's what defense is about. It's about team defense. You are always trying to isolate it into one player, one situation or one thing, and it just doesn't work that way.

We were in foul trouble and that made it tough to guard (Castro) in the post. That and we didn't rotate on defense. We were only supposed to play defense for 40 minutes.

My mental approach is totally different. My coach predicated everything on defense. He always talked about defense, defense, defense. I took it to heart that if you play defense, you can take the heart from an offensive player.

He could easily have gotten more time early, but he didn't understand our defensive philosophy. The one thing we say here is if you don't play defense, you don't play. You can always have an off night shooting, but you can always play defense.
