en A lot of employers with computer jobs are looking for psychology and music majors. Students majoring in those two areas often show an affinity for computer sciences.

en For many years students in the College have wanted to take computer science but not with the engineering focus -- they wanted to do additional majors like economics or psychology or something in the life sciences and the engineering degree didn't allow them to do both.

en There are certainly majors that are definitely more in demand right now than others. Computer science, computer engineering, information technology nursing, civil engineering and accounting would be some of our majors that currently have the highest job placement rate. A lot of it has to do with jobs that deal with supply and demand.

en It's a very good job hunting season. The average starting salary for accounting and finance majors is around $35,000, for business and management majors it's $36,000 and computer sciences majors top the charts at $46,000 average starting salaries.

en The issues involved are sufficiently important that courses are now moving out of the philosophy departments and into mainstream computer science. And they affect everyone. Many of the students attracted to these courses are not technology majors, and many of the topics we discuss relate to ethical challenges that transcend the computer world.

en CSF 150 is designed for students without a previous background in computer science and uses examples from the arts and sciences to motivate students.

en It's an excellent job market for college graduates this year and although it seems to be slowing somewhat, we are still seeing an increase of about 40 percent over last year in the number of job offers being made. We are seeing great offers in what you'd consider hot majors, computer fields and information sciences, along with accounting, finance and business areas. But oddly enough you are also seeing strong growth in education, since there's a shortage of qualified teachers to replace those who are retiring.

en Students will learn skills that are useful in all majors. Students majoring in communications and organizational development could really benefit from this course.

en They were the people who were supplying computer systems, computer software, computer hardware. That's what they did. We were the people supplying the music. And they crossed the dividing line.

en Imagine you are writing an email. You are in front of the computer. You are operating the computer, clicking a mouse and typing on a keyboard, but the message will be sent to a human over the internet. So you are working before the computer, but with a human behind the computer.

en These will be computer related courses taught by departments in the College, not by computer science. So an example of that kind of course would be a digital music course or a certain mathematics course.

en That's why our students are so versatile. Those are the same skills that you'll need as a business executive, architect, librarian or social worker. There are not many jobs that require skills that psychology majors don't have.

en [Apple] Computer was promoting a store at which to buy music, and more particularly, Computer's musical recordings — permanent downloads — with special characteristics. No objective onlooker could think otherwise.

en It's designed to get people's anxieties up, ... Hoaxes spread very rapidly, using psychology to spread the information from computer to computer. It clogs up e-mail servers and e-mail boxes. [Users] are never quite sure what's secure what's not secure.
